using the free plan, i got a domain, and it doesn’t resolve

  using the free plan, i got a domain, and it doesn’t resolve unless the user is logged into wordpress. why the heck is that happening? my uncle and i paid for this domain

  Is it possible you made your purchase under a different login?
  I can confirm that innovativehype.com is registered at WordPress.com but is under a different account and not your @micahpeo login.

  Hi @staff-totoro. Myy uncle bought it for me when he helped me establish my LLC. He the domain to me when I told him I didn’t have access to it. Unfortunately he passed away so there’s no way for me to access his account. But the domain is transferred to my account. And the website is up, but it only loads when I’m logged in. He purchased the domain with this email: (email visible only to moderators and staff)

  Unfortunately, despite whatever he may have said to you, the domain has not been transferred to your @micahpeo account. That is why you do not see it listed here when you are logged in under your account: https://wordpress.com/me/purchases/

  Moving forward, it’s important that you get this domain moved over to your account so that it does not expire from lack of renewal. You can use the process outlined here to submit the info we would need to be able to give you access to your uncle’s account: https://wordpress.com/support/deceased-user/

  This will put you in touch with our team directly via email where they can work with you to establish account access and get the domain transferred over to your direct control.

  One thing I’d like to clarify here is that while your uncle did purchase a domain for you he may not have been aware that it’s not possible to have a free site with a custom address. Free sites must use the free “wordpress.com address and display advertising to help cover our costs. However, you can upgrade to one of our plans which will allow you to set a custom address for your site (all our plans include this option) as well as turn off the ads we show on free sites, and add new features that you can see in the “learn more” link below:

  You are welcome to upgrade now and then we would be able to set your site to use innovativehype.com as it’s custom address ASAP. The domain expires on May 19, 2023, so there is still some time to address it separately and work with our accounts team to regain access to your uncle’s account and transfer the domain to your control.
