Using the more tag,
-
I’ve seen some blogs using the “more” tag, and (looking at the page source) the link was suffixed with more#(three letter number), which lead me to believe that the more tag works by automatically breaking up your post and generating a new page for the link, which has the rest of the article. Am I right, is that how it works? I couldn’t get it to function in this manner. Are there any tutorials that explain how it works in detail?

I use the ordinary editor and not the visual rich text editor and all I click the more button <!–more> wherever I want the break to occur. If you use the visual rich text editor the icon is number 13 http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/05/15/what-do-all-the-icons-mean/

Shouldn’t be theme dependant as the Post output is generated by the function, not the theme.
Basically you just put the more tag where you want the division. Ignore the three digit code that you mention. That’s being generated by the software. TT gives the button you hit depending on which editor you’re using.
Hope this helps,
