Using THESIS for WordPress

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi!

I have downloaded THESIS for wordpress and am having difficulties getting started…
    Anyone ever done this?
How does one identify the server address?
    (Or is it simply wordpress?)

    Thanks!!

    K

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Bad news: external themes cannot be added to WordPress.com sites. I think Thesis is one that you pay for; if so, see if you can get your money back. External themes ONLY apply to WordPress.ORG blogs, which is not what you have. It cannot be adapted to work here, not even with the CSS upgrade.

Oh no! I did pay, but think I can get it refunded.
    Thanks much for your reply!

You’re welcome. Lots of people get caught in it. Thesis is a terrific theme; perhaps if you lay out why you chose it, someone in the Themes forum could help you find a theme that would fit your needs.

Yes! The theme options are so limited on wordpress.com!
I was really hoping to change the look.
Also, one can’t advertise on wordpress.com…

    Is switching to wordpress.org difficult?

In the meantime I’ll poke around the Themes forum and see what I can find.

    Thanks again!

“Difficult” is hard to quantify, and it depends on how much support your webhost offers. But hundreds of people do it every month. You’ll be on your own for tech support, upgrades, security, and backups.

There are 100 themes on WP.com and if you know CSS coding you can purchase the CSS upgrades and tinker with existing themes to change the look entirely, as you can see on my blog.

Before people can advise you on making the switch, you need to determine if it’s necessary. If you want ads, it is. Simple-no question. But ad revenue has dropped by 75% over the past couple of years, so be realistic.

There are currently 100 themes on Wp.com. But WP.com is set up to encourage blogging, not ad revenue generation or web design.
