Using WordPress

    Hi,

My company has a website. I would like to re-implement it using WordPress with a new look. However, there are files in the existing website being accessed by URLs like this one

How can these files be made available in WordPress using the same URLs?

    Thank you.

  • Hi there,

How can these files be made available in WordPress using the same URLs?

If your site will be hosted here, there’s no great way to keep the exact same media URLs. Do you know if you’ll be using our services?

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

I want to say if you have a Business Plan, you could add redirects for each affected file, to point it from the old address to the new one.

Otherwise, if you’ll be hosting elsewhere, ask your host to see what redirect options are available there. They may also be willing to let you upload files in the same place so redirects won’t be needed.

    Thanks, Supernovia.

The site will be hosted by WordPress, ie I will point the existing domain name to the new site.

Does WordPress provide file server function for the website?

Can I replicate that URL which points to the pdf file which is uploaded to WordPress file server for this website?

    Thank you.

  • Does WordPress provide file server function for the website?

The WordPress software stores files in the media library of the site, not on a separate file server.

Can I replicate that URL which points to the pdf file which is uploaded to WordPress file server for this website?

On the business plan you can use media library plugins to add some level of customization but I’m not sure if you’ll be able to replicate exactly that file structure you’re currently using. However, you will be able to set up redirects for the files if not, using a redirection plugin.

Thank you. Can you send me some links to learn more about redirection plugin? Is this something available in WordPress?

  • There are many different plugins, you can browse them here:

Plugins are developed by third-party so, if you’re looking for specific recommendations, I’d suggest posting to the community forums at https://wordpress.org/support/forums/.

Most folks in these forums have a free WordPress site hosted here with us, and thus can’t install plugins without upgrading. And since the upgraded sites come with direct support, those users don’t typically hang out here. So you’ll likely find more relevant information if you’ll try the other forum.
