using wordpress direct rather than via BlueHost
-
Our little non-profit organisation currently has both web hosting and domain name registration with Blue Host, but using wordpress for website. As a very happy wordpress user I want to have hosting by wordpress, but worry about the linking of the domain name. I have access to https://wordpress.com/support/move-domain/incoming-domain-transfer/ but I don’t quite understand.
WP.com: Yes
Correct account: YesThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

An update from me. Chat on BlueHost changed the DNS settings, but have to wait for that to take effect. Same with email forwarding. Also, I now have two wordpress sites to merge. Not sure how to do that, either. I was assured by Bluehost I wouldn’t lose my old site.

If you have hosting at Bluehost, you really don’t need wordpress.com. Instead you can install the open source wordpress.org. Bluehost even has a wordpress hosting plan.

Hi there @shtfn
Great to know you manage to change the DNS settings.
I have access to https://wordpress.com/support/move-domain/incoming-domain-transfer/ but I don’t quite understand.
It can be quite challenging to do the transfer. The guide you linked is only for the domain transfer but you could also migrate your old content. Right now BlueHost helped you to connect your Domain Name to your WordPress.com site, you could keep managing your domain with them, or continue with the transfer. Make sure Blue Host has unlocked the domain before doing the transfer.
Because you are coming from your own WordPress installation, you could migrate your site with the content, theme and plugins. For this you will need to have a business plan or higher, you can follow these steps to use the migration tool
https://wordpress.com/support/moving-from-self-hosted-wordpress-to-wordpress-com/#option-1-migrate-from-self-hostedBut you could also directly export your content from your precious site, and import it to your new site. You can follow option 2 of the same guide.
If you have a specific question about any of this, I’ll be happy to help 😉!
