using WordPress is painful

What is wrong with WordPress dot com
You (WordPress.com) people make it as difficult as possible to contact support, so you obviously know that wordpress.com is incredibly defective. I know it is a free service, and I want to be appreciative, but when I use WordPress.com, I wish I was repeatedly getting kicked in the balls REALLY hard, because I long for something less painful then using WordPress.com! And you must know how defective WordPress.com is, otherwise why would you make it so incredibly difficult to contact people (support) at WordPress.com?
First, the dashboard is worthless. I have to log onto my account and click edit( on a previous post) before I can create a new post.
And don’t even think about copy/pasting from MS Word 2007 into the WordPress New post, because the formatting will be totally screwed up, and there is nothing I can do to change it (the formatting). And even if I do not copy/paste, but type everything in manually, half the time everything runs together, I cannot put a space between text text. WordPress FORCES me to run everything together, such as:

The support form was closed for the holidays and will be reopened on the 2nd. Staff monitor the forums here and this has been tagged for their attention.
I’m wondering though how “defective” it can be when it is the most used blogging and CMS software on the web, and there are over 25 million sites set up here at wordpress.COM.
If you post some of your issues here we can most certainly help you with them.
On MS Word: It is not a web application. It is a print media application. It does not speak web and if the formatting Word puts in were allowed to stay, it would blow up your blog here. We volunteers spent billions and billions of hours helping people un-blow up their sites here after they pasted from MS Word. Luckily the wordpress software will now strip out the offending back Word code automatically.
If you want control over your formatting and such, download the Windows Live Writer blog client software (free) which is very MS Word like, but unlike MS Word, it actually speaks web and will produce clean web compliant code that will not destroy your site.
Alternately, Word 2007 has a blog client capability and after setting it up, you can write in MS Word and the actually upload the post directly from Word (do not copy and paste) and it will convert and upload actual webbie stuff rather than the wordy stuff that kills the web.

Instead of closing down the “site” to check on the anonymous tagging, how about removing the offended party until further investigation…you know, innocent until proven guilty?

@educator5
If you are referring to blog suspensions then please contact Staff directly on January 2nd, because we Volunteers have no role to play in that process, and as a policy, we refrain from discussing ToS issues on the public forums.Reference links:

Ummm, no. Yes you have to be logged into your account (otherwise how does wordpress know what blog to put a new post on?
1. If you are logged into your account and on one of the public pages on your blog, hover your mouse over your blog name in the upper left of the grey admin bar, move your mouse down to “new” and then on the flyout that appears, click “post” and you are taken directly to the new post page.
2. If you are logged into your account and on one of the public pages on your blog, hover your mouse over your user name at the left end of the grey admin bar, and you can create a new post from there as well.
3. 1 & 2 above also apply if you are in your dashboard.
4. Another way to create a new post from the dashboard: In the left navigation column, hover your mouse over post and then on the flyout that appears, select “add new” and again you are taken directly to the new post page.

That is correct: if you copy/paste from Word, things will be incredibly screwed up, so don’t do that.
Read: http://learn.wordpress.com and if you have a technical problem in the meantime, as you do because you used Word, search the forums, where there are probably (and certainly, in this case) hundreds of threads with the solution to your issue.

Does any one pay attention to what is said? Let me try again to make people understand.
First, I’m ALWAYS logged into my account, but the dashboard does almost nothing. I log into my account, and click on dashboard, and I have to click Edit of a previous pst before it offers me the option of creating a new post.Second, if I’m creating a new post and try to copy/paste from MS Word 2007 into the New Post thing, the formatting is all messed up. And if I manually type everything into my New Post (instead of copy/paste from MS Word), half the time the formatting is STILL messed up, and WordPress refuses to let me change it. I can have the formatting exactly as I want it in the New Post, but when I check it in Preview or click on Publish it, the formatting is different; the sentences all run together.
I don’t know how to make these problems any easier to understand.

@mytestblog48
Will you please provide us with some details so we can try to help you?1. How are you connecting to the internet and to WordPress.com? The way you connect to the internet (mobile, satellite, DSL, dial-up) and to your blog, and how many proxy server jumps etc. it takes to connect can cause problems. There maybe be problems with your ISP and/or with the proxy servers. It sounds like there could be a problem with your ISP. Can you access any of these directly?

http://s1.wp.com/
http://s2.wp.com/2. Are you using http:// or https:// see http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/ Have your tried using the opposite?
3. Exactly which browser and version of it are you using?
4. Have you tried clearing your browser cache and cookies? http://www.google.com/support/accounts/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=32050
5. Is your browser version up to date? You can upgrade any browser version here. http://browsehappy.com/
6. Do you have third party cookies enabled?
7. Do you have JavaScript enabled? http://www.google.com/adsense/support/bin/answer.py?answer=12654
8. Do you have another browser you can try?
9. You can use this link to see if your Flash is up to date. http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ If it’s not up to date then this is where to download and install the latest version of Flash. http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/
10. Have your tried resetting your router and modem?
11. Have you had any recent operating system and/or security program updates?

Second, if I’m creating a new post and try to copy/paste from MS Word 2007 into the New Post thing, the formatting is all messed up.
The support documentation has clear entries on WORD. If you have been copying and pasting text from elsewhere without using either icon 5 or icon 6 in Row 2 of the visual editor, please see here so you know how to do this correctly in the future. http://en.support.wordpress.com/visual-editor/#pasting-text
Please enable this setting on your blog > Go to Settings > Writing and select “ ___ WordPress should correct invalidly nested XHTML automatically” and then scroll down and click “Save Changes.”
Then open your latest post in the editor, make one minor change such as adding a space and then deleting it, and then click “Update Post.” Check your blog and see if it is back to normal.

Let me try this again:
Half the time the formatting (sentences) all run together, and there is nothing I can do to change it. I can manually type everything into my New Post thing, and it will look exactly like I want it to look, but if I click Preview or if I Publish it, the formatting is different, the sentences run together with no break, and there is nothing I can do to change it.
I’m using a computer at a public library, and I can only use Internet Explorer, if that makes a difference.

I’m using a computer at a public library, and I can only use Internet Explorer, if that makes a difference.
Yes it does make a difference — a big difference. Public libraries rarely have to date equipment and frequently compel users to use outdated browser versions like IE6 and IE7, which are no longer supported. I sincerely believe your issues are computer or browser related. Is it possible for you to use another computer to access your blog?
-
Thank you for replying.
No it is not possible for me to use another (non public library) computer. There are many restrictions on library computers, and I know it has Windows 7, but I have no option to find out which Internet explorer it uses. I think it must be 7 or 8, but I”m guessing.
But even though I’m technology impaired, I find it hard to believe the problem is the computer I’m using. I don’t want to offend you, but do you understand that even if I manually type everything into my New Post thing, half the time it can look exactly like I want it to, but when I check Preview or actually Publish it, the formatting changes? And are convinced that is caused by the computer I’m using?
I’m technology impaired, but

The paragraph break issue is because MS Word is NOT A WEB APPLICATION. How can I be more clear on that? MS Word will, if you copy and paste directly from it, many times reset the wordpress editor into “DIV” mode instead of Paragraph mode. This is a direct result of MS Word. Again MS WORD IS NOT A WEB APPLICATION.
If you lose paragraph formatting (blank lines between paragraphs) highlight everything in the editor window, go to the “format pulldown on the left end of the lower row of tools in the editor and select paragraph to put the editor back into paragraph mode.
You never said so, but have you tried any of the things I mentioned here?
1. If you are logged into your account and on one of the public pages on your blog, hover your mouse over your blog name in the upper left of the grey admin bar, move your mouse down to “new” and then on the flyout that appears, click “post” and you are taken directly to the new post page.

To make sure you don’t have something corrupted in your wordpress cookies, or in your browser’s cached pages, log out of wordpress, clear your browser cache and cookies, restart your browser and then log back in and see if you can start a new post using 1-4 above.

I understand what you are expressing. It sounds like a computer or browser issue or Flash issue to me. You can use this link to see if your Flash is up to date. http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ If it’s not up to date then this is where to download and install the latest version of Flash. http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/

Even if I do NOT use MS Word, even if I don’t use ANY other word processing program, even if I manually type everything into the WordPress My New Post thing, then half the time the formatting is messed up (the sentances run together with no space break between them), and there is nothing I can do to change it. When I type it into the New Post Thingy it looks exactly like I want it to look, but when click Preview, or if I click Publish, WordPress changes the formatting so that sentences run together with no space break, and there is nothing I can do to change it.

If you don’t know the answer, that is nothing to be ashamed of. But don’t lie to me, or make up some answer!
-
The editor is set to DIV, probably due to a previous post that was pasted in from MS Word.
1. Go to settings > writing in the dashboard and select “WordPress should correct invalidly nested XHTML automatically” and click save changes.
Create a post, highlight everything in the post and from the format pulldown select “paragraph”. Row 2, #1. If the second row of tools is not showing, click on the icon on the right end of the top row (kitchen sink) and the second lower row will appear.
WordPress should remember that “paragraph” setting from now on unless something happens to reset it back to div (such as pasting directly from the web or from Word or another application).

If the library computer is on Windows 7, then it is likely using IE8 or IE9. You can find out which by going to the “help” menu in the browser and selecting “about Internet Explorer.”
Public computers do usually have a lot of restrictions, and it could even be that some of those restrictions are the root of the problems you are experiencing.
-
The reason that ALL your posts are having this error is that you introduced a code error by your previous use of MS Word and you haven’t fixed it yet. Follow TSP’s instructions and you will both fix the error and prevent it from ever re-happening.
It’s as if you drove your car into a tree, didn’t remove the tree, and now find your car is not running very well. You must fix the problem.
-
Can I just chime in? I’ve been using WP for over a year now and in my opinion the original users problems are NOT related to WP software, but to either “user error” or the operating environment being used, as stated by others.
I really encourage the user to find another computer with another browser to try. Surely there is a friend with a computer, another library that can be visited?
I’ve had the odd problem over the 12 months, usually resolved by using Chrome rather than IE (I don’t like Firefox).
May I point out that if WP were the problem, then logically this forum would be overflowing with such posts. Clearly, it is not!
