Using wordpress.com or wordpress.org?

I prefer the benefits with wordpress.org but I’ve read that if you were to make any mistakes (which I might because I’m no expert, just a beginner) to the web server, I could lose your entire blog!
I want to be able to able to customise so what’s the best option?
Get a web designer to create the page for me? Get reading?

For my personal blog, I started out with wp.com then later created a site using wp.org because I wanted to use my own domain name without spending more money. Creating the wp.org site is not really that difficult, but no doubt there certainly is an ongoing risk of losing everything if you don’t really understand and regularly practice sound backup procedures. Ask yourself how much customizing you really need. You can do amazing stuff with .com without spending a penny on upgrades.

    Thank you,
Well, I got wp.org because I could install a theme rather than using a one of the given themes on wp.com. I want a website style website, not blog. That was the only customizing I wanted to do.

You’re welcome. Not trying to steer you either way. But there is a diverse selection of themes available in wp.com, and indeed you can have a static home page with wp.com — you have seen this, right?

@oluwabukonla – the domain name mapped to your name is a WordPress.COM site hosted here – you can make a blog here look like a “regular web site” if you want – but be aware that search engines like Posts better than they like Pages.

Check out @timethief’s site for more tips (she helps regular in the forum) – just click on her name
