Using WordPress.org on WordPress.com
-
I was wondering: is it possible to use WordPress.org and still be on the WordPress.com network? I want my posts to appear in the tag-pages.
Thank you.

It’s an interesting question.
WordPress.com offers hosting for WordPress sites, similar to, but separate from, hosting you might get elsewhere and then install WordPress from WordPress.org.
We allow WordPress.org users the opportunity to use many of our features via Jetpack, and your Gravatar and possibly other services such as VideoPress and Akismet are tied to a WordPress.com account.
However, one of the advantages of being on WordPress.com is our tag system, allowing our own users to appear in the WordPress.com Reader. While others may follow your blog using the Reader, your site will not be indexed by WordPress.com unless it’s hosted here.
I hope that answers your questions!

Thank you for your answer,
You said:

How is it possible then that followers use the Reader, if my site doesn’t show up there?

Anyone can add non-WordPress.com blogs to the Reader for their own use, transforming the Reader into a sort of RSS reader. Doing so does not pull the content of the non-WordPress.com blog into the system for others to read, however.

:-(. Unfortunately. I wanted to have to best of both worlds :-). Thanks your for answers though!

There are definitely pros and cons to both options. Hope this was helpful, even if it wasn’t the answer you were hoping for!
