UTC time displays instead of local time
-
Hi, I’m running a high school newspaper and the UTC time appears right below the header instead of the local time, which is running almost a day behind. I saved the local time as Panama, which is the same as Houston.
Could I get some help on this? I greatly appreciate it,
Jessica

Hi Jessica! Panama doesn’t employ daylight savings time. I can’t be entirely certain that’s causing the issue, but if you would, please adjust the clock to Chicago. See if that does this trick.
If not, scroll through the list until your find UTC/GMT -5 hours. That is Houston’s differential from Greenwich Mean Time.
I hope this helps! Let us know.

Oh well, unfortunately it didn’t work. It’s 10:00 pm, April 29th here and now it says “Thursday, May 1st” on the header.
Thank you for any of your help,
Jessica

Jessica:
I see that you’ve currently set the time for Chicago. Does your computer have the exact same date/time settings as your WordPress.com site? Everyone’s individual computer will “do the math” and read the time according their specific time zone.
Do you have other folks who can test the site as well — it’ll help me troubleshoot the issue if I know if it’s a WordPress.com issue, rather than a computer/browser/network problem.
Thanks much! We’ll get to the bottom of this!

Sorry for the late reply! And yes, it does show up as the next day on other mobile/desktop devices too. I checked last night on another phone, and it said “Saturday” when it was “Friday.” Also, my computer’s time is correct and matches up with my website’s.
Thank you so much!

I really appreciate it! Yeah, I heard about how some themes only display the UTC time instead of local.
Thank you :)

Hi Jessica,
The theme developer updated his theme and it should display the correct time now.
Cheers,
Thomas
