utilizing godaddy website and wordpress

  • Unknown's avatar

I have just signed up for a godaddy website, what should be my next course of action as far as using both the godaddy website and wordpress? I am completely brand new to all of this, so would appreciate any input that you could give.
p.s. my blog and website will be about health in general, and enagic ionizers in specific

    thank you,
    Susanne

Do you plan to sell anything yopur do not personally make or sell a service that you do not personally provide? That cannot be done on a free hosted WordPress.com blog. It can only be done on a WordPress.org install and the two are completely separate. Read this please > http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

After you read the link from@TT above – you should go over to WordPress.ORG and make friends there – they have a section on how to get started – my guess is you will run into Terms of Service issues here and get your blog suspended – best to start where you can sell what you want

Hi, thank you for your quick response. I could have any purchasers go to the company website where they would need to input my information before making a purchase

with godaddy I only have the most inexpensive website, with limited amount of pages, and so I thought that anything extra that I want to share with the world could go on my blog. Am I crazy or is that how its all done? (sorry for being such an idiot, I am a senior citizen, and stumbling through all of this through trial and error)

Being a senior has nothing to do with the ability to use the web.

Use your Godaddy site with WordPress.org software. It will be much simpler for you, and better in terms of search engine standings, to have everything in one place. Since you’ve already paid for it, you might as well use it. And support for that site is available in the WordPress.ORG forums.

I agree with you about being a senior. I only meant that I do not have a support network of family and friends that can help me with this, as they know even less than me. and I have not been schooled in the use of most of this technology, so I learn by trying something until I get it figured out, but it can be very time consuming and frustrating for me to figure out even the simplest of things.

    e.g
    godaddy site with wordpress software?
    search engine standings?

I am guessing from this, that what I should have done was not to have purchased the godaddy website, but instead, set up a website through wordpress.org alone?

WordPress.ORG is the keeper of the WordPress software – they do not host any blogs –

To have a WordPress.ORG site – you hire a web host (Godaddy) is one of many hosts – WordPress.ORG also has a list of recommended hosts – then you install the WordPress.ORG software – find a theme you like – install it and you are good to go

No, that is not possible. WordPress.org only supplies software, it does not host websites.

WordPress.com hosts websites, as does GoDaddy, but on WordPress.com you are not allowed to run ecommerce to sell things like enagic ionizers that you yourself do not make. On GoDaddy, you can.

What I plan on doing is having the godaddy website all about enagic ionizers. and directing anyone who wishes to purchase to the enagic corporate website where they can see all the ionizers, and choose whichever one they wish.
wordpress I would like to use primarily to share information on health in general, with some emphasis on the benefits of ionized water. and also to post anything new e.g. scientific reports etc on those benefits.

  • Unknown's avatar

If I understand correctly, you would recommend people purchase an ionizer and then they would go to the corporate site to make that purchase, but you would receive a commission?

Even with the jump from your blog to godaddy to the corporate site, it seems that plan would still likely fall under the affiliate links guidelines:

Having all of your ‘stuff’ in one place helps your standings in Google and the like.

Your ideal solution is to install the software from WordPress.org onto the godaddy account. You essentially can replicate what you can do here on WordPress.com, but with fewer limitations and many more options. There is a little more work involved, but there’s plenty of help to get you started.

No, if the links in question exist on a Godaddy site they are not subject to the terms of service here. But I see no point in maintaining a blog here when by definition the WP.org site at GoDaddy will also have a blog.

Thank you so much everyone for all of your help, I shall go to workpress.org
