Vanishing side bar widgets.

    Except for widgets that are shown on all pages, all of the other side bar widgets have been moved to inactive widgets. I move them to the side bar area and update but they are not moved. This is the second time I have found that my side bar widgets have been moved to inactive widgets and now I cannot move them back. What’s going on?

    Hi there!

    The problem is likely due to two different items:

    1. The theme your site is using (Big Brother) was retired in December 2017. While it appears to work with the Block Widget editor, it was retired before that feature was introduced, so it may not work 100% as expected.
    2. The Gallery widget was removed in favor of the Gallery Block.

    Since it looks like most of the widgets in your inactive list are Gallery widgets, you would need to recreate those for your sidebar in the Gallery Block:

    Hi,

    Thanks for your feedback.

    I’m disappointed that I don’t remember getting notification that ‘Big Brother’ was being retired, but I cannot be sure that I wasn’t notified.

    My bigger problem now is that if I manually re-create all of the galleries there doesn’t seem to be a way to specify where they should be shown – there are no ‘Visibility’ options so any gallery I put into the ‘Sidebar’ is shown on every page – not the desired result.

    It seems that I may have to change the theme. I can’t find one that has a ‘Sidebar’. What will happen to the data that is in the ‘Sidebar’ if I change to a theme that doesn’t have one?

    Hi there,

    It is still possible to set visibility for blocks in the sidebar, same as you do for widgets. The option has moved however, but if you watch this video you will see where it is found: https://d.pr/v/IIMF8R
