vanity links for commentors no longer working

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi, I changed my theme recently and have noticed that several (I should say all) of my commenter’s “vanity links” are no longer links at all. (You no longer can click their names and be transported to their blog). I believe I have looked at all of the available options and settings but I cannot seem to find where to fix it.

Is this feature only available with certain themes – or am I just missing it??

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

That shouldn’t matter at all; they should all still work. Are you sure their blogs haven’t been somehow “Matured” ie set as Mature recently? That will make the names unclickable.

  • The links look normal to me. Can you post an example?

@tellyworth – you have to look at the comments – everything else is functioning correctly.

@ raincoaster – I don’t know what you mean by ‘matured’ – but I’ll check my settings and look for that word. Do you know where that particular setting is?

  • Unknown's avatar

Nope – still can’t find anything. I’m sure I have to ‘enable’ some setting but for the life of me … I can’t find it.

I can’t see anything wrong with the links, some are there, some are not. That depends on whether the commenter had a blog linked to the name when making the comment. Are you saying they were there before?

  • Unknown's avatar

Yes! All of those commenters have blogs. And on the old theme they linked back. The only one’s that work now are mine and one belonging to a new person. The other links just went away.

  • Unknown's avatar

Let me get this straight: You switched from Blix (?) to Regulus and the links went away? Sounds odd. Have you checked the edit/approve comments section to see if the links are really missing from their comments?

  • Unknown's avatar

The links are missing from everywhere except on the blogroll.

  • Unknown's avatar

Do they have to RE register or something? Because, like I said, a new person commented for the first time – and their link functions properly.

  • Unknown's avatar

OK, I cannot tell who of your commenter are ‘old’ and who are ‘new’, but looking at some of your older posts, some of the older comments appear to be alright. I’ve switched themes numerous times and never had this happen to me. The only suggestion I can give is to manually add the URL to each commenter’s name.

  • Unknown's avatar

    How would I do that?

  • Unknown's avatar

And would they” stay” after I did it?

  • Unknown's avatar

You are right?! Their links still work in the older posts! Just not since I switched.

    car54,
You can edit everything in your comments by going to ‘Comments’ on your dashboard:
The commenter’s name, email, URL, the comment itself and the date/time. Simply add the URL if you know it. But you must do it for every comment by that commenter, not just once. Mind you, only do that if you’re sure the commenter did comment with his link. There may be personal reasons why he/she did not want to comment with the link in a particular case.

Thanks. All of their links disappeared at once though. I’m certain that they did not remove their links. I’ll just ask them to re- register. Thanks for all of your help though.
