Version Control – I need to build a second version of my site.
-
Hi,
1. How do I build a new version of a website with WordPress and Elementor in parallel with the existing website?
2. Does WordPress.com support some form of version control setup to help with this effort?I only want to launch the new version of the website once I am completely finished. At the same time, I want to keep the current website public.
Backstory:
I am a freelancer, and I have a client with an existing WordPress site hosted on WordPress.com. Their current website is divided across three sub-domains, and WordPress is installed on the blog (blog.website.com) subdomain.
I need to convert the website on the primary domain, website.com, to WordPress & Elementor, and merge it with the blog.
The end result should be website.com and blog.website.com to both be powered by WordPress and Elementor (i.e. website.com/blog).

Hello there,
Are you able to tell me the URL of the site you’re working on please?

I’d just like to check, are you looking to build a new site, away from your current live site? As so not to disturb your live site?

WordPress.com currently does not offer this. We would recommend building a site locally, with a view to upload this to WordPress.com when ready.
Please see this support guide here regarding working Locally: https://wordpress.com/support/ftp-access/#making-changes-locally
Please note that the site would need to be on the business plan for this approach.
I hope this helps!
