Version updates

I have a very old wordpress site. I would like to update to the latest version so I can convert it to a web site. How do I do this? Many of the buttons the tutorials talk about I can’t find, and I suspect it is because my version is so old. I can’t even find where to detect which version I have.

WordPress.com is a hosted version of the WordPress content management system, and runs the latest version of the same, by default. So, rest assured; as soon as the latest version of WordPress is released, your version of WordPress is updated to its latest version, on the fly.
Possibly, the tutorials you were checking out were referring to the WordPress content management system (which has extended functionality, including customization features like plugins, and editing).
