VERY BASIC: ability to add widgets to widget column

  Dear All,

  I ask you: What is the use of having a widget column if most solid 3rd party applications (Slide for example) cannot be placed within the widget column? Widgets are widget rather than actual blog entries. Adding them as a blog entry downgrades the layout quality of a site that is distinguished by the quality of content. Forget being able to add the Shelfari book widget as well. Both of widgets mentioned are great visual content that belong on the sides of a blog where they are not central attention. Blogger takes the cake because they also enable javascript and flash so it is highly customizable. If it’s a matter of money, I’d rather pay an upgrade fee to use WP and have that level of freedom.

  If you are hosted on WordPress.com, go self-hosted and you can have all the widgets you want.

  Why some widgets will not be available on WordPress.com, upgrade or not:

  Okay…

  Security concerns are fine. But WP can still create a widget for Slide, Playlist, and Shelfari that is integrated in the widget options. Face book does something like this to great effect.

  Amidst all the questions you receive, I appreciate you responding. I may very well send some requests out to support. Am a bit intimidated by the whole process of 3rd party hosting and any notions of HTML coding to get it up and running. It’s not a money issue; it’s more a “turnkey” issue. Tough to set up?
