Very confused on hosts and domains issue
-
I’m going to try and keep this as short as possible.
Yesterday I purchased a years service with Worpress (I signed up as iglampixels.wordpress.com ) . I then was given a free domain name which I selected as iglampixels.com . I then bought another domain name with WordPress called simplylovelythemes.com . I’m slowly getting my head around the redirect issue I was having but now I face another problem and would be so appreciative for any help because I can’t do anything until this is sorted and I need to get my business up and running.
The issue is, I decided to go to Host Gator because I wanted the option to add my own custom theme to my WordPress rather than being limited. I contacted Host Gator today to see the progress of my order and they said that it should now all be running smoothly for iglampixels.com and I should now see the option to install my own theme, but I don’t. He then went on to tell me Wild West Domains is who my site is also registered with even though it was a brand new web address that I created yesterday through yourselves. He told me to log in to my Wild West Account to change the servers and settings so they point to Host Gator.
1) I don’t have a Wild West Domain account (as stated before I created this domain through WordPress) and 2) I’m such a newbie with all this I don’t have a clue how to set it all up, I just know how to run a site once it’s done and that’s it!
Please, if anyone could help me I would appreciate it a lot, I need to get this site running ASAP.
Many thanks!

Hi there, let me try to help with this.
1) I don’t have a Wild West Domain account (as stated before I created this domain through WordPress)
Wild West Domains is just the name of our domain registrar partner, so your domain is indeed still registered through us. :-)
It sounds like all you need to do is update your name servers for iglampixels.com to point to the name servers provided by HostGator.
To do that, you’ll need to log into your domain manager here at WordPress.com and follow the steps in our guide here:
Change name servers. If you need any help with this, just let me know what the name servers are that HostGator has provided and I’ll be glad to assist with the necessary changes.

Thanks very much! I’ve managed to successfully set up host gator with WordPress!
But I have another couple of issues now.
My old version of WordPress is still available, I mean the dashboard etc.
And the second issue in facing is I did purchase another domain through WordPress. simplylovelythemes.com – this is showing only on my old version if WordPress now and not the new host gator version.
Any help would be deeply appreciated. I feel like I’m almost there!

Also once both have been moved over to be hosted by Host Gator is there need for the old versions anymore?

Great! Glad to hear it.

You’ll need to keep your WordPress.com site active so you can still access the domain manager through the dashboard. If you no longer want the front end of the site to be publicly viewable, you can change its status to private under Settings > Reading – Site Visibility:
https://iglampixels.wordpress.com/wp-admin/options-reading.php
If you’ll no longer be using the iglampixels.wordpress.com site at all, would you like me to refund part of your Premium package, excluding the private domain purchase? I would be able to issue you a $73 refund.
More information on Privacy Settings.

If you have a second HostGator site to which you’d like to point simplylovelythemes.com, you can repeat the name server updates for that domain, through the dashboard here:
https://simplylovellythemes.wordpress.com/wp-admin/paid-upgrades.php?page=domains
If you want to point the domain to the same HostGator site you already mentioned, you’ll need to ask HostGator what the procedure would be. In most cases, a hosting package allows you to point only one domain name to the site, but it can depend, so you’ll need to ask your host. Somtimes you can also have other domains “parked” on top of the primary domain, and this may cost extra. HostGator can inform you of your options.

So, if you did refund me that money and I closed iglampixels.wordpress.com for good, that wouldn’t affect my new site (iglampixels.com) in any way at all, or the future use of it? If there is no need for me to have iglampixels.wordpress.com and it won’t affect iglampixels.com in a any way then sure, I would appreciate that refund.
I shall get in touch with Host Gator about my second domain and see how it goes. Thank you for all of your time, I really appreciate the help!
-
Also, deleting the iglampixels.wordpress.com wouldn’t stop me being able to access certain premium features for example the change of themes would it?
-
Hi there, as I mentioned earlier, you can’t delete iglampixels.wordpress.com as long as a custom domain is still attached to it – otherwise, you wouldn’t be able to log into your domain manager! You need access to the site in order to get into the domain manager and make changes to your domain.
If you don’t want anyone to see the site, you can make it private – just follow the instructions I gave earlier. Alternatively, you could opt to transfer the domain to another registrar, but you’ll need to wait 60 days from the day you registered the domain to be able to do that. Instructions are here: Transfer a domain to another registrar.
I’ve gone ahead and removed the Premium upgrade and issued a $73 refund. It can take 1-2 weeks to be reflected on your account.

Hi there, removing the Premium upgrade removes the upgrade’s bundled features on iglampixels.wordpress.com only – i.e. uploading audio files, No Ads, Custom Design, etc.
Removing this upgrade doesn’t affect your new self-hosted site at all, since Premium is an upgrade only applicable to WordPress.com sites.
Just let me know if this isn’t clear. Thanks!

That is very clear, it was me being dumb, thank you very much for your time and advice, you have helped a bundle!
