Very disappointed with WordPress.com business

  • Unknown's avatar

We have been with wordpress.com business for some months now (less than a year) and our website is down for a 3rd time within this period (last time our site was down for over 3-4 hours). I must say I regret my decision to leave bluehost. Not only does downtime happen way to often, we are not even allowed to connect a DNS fall-back server for such cases (and we are willing to pay for that extra server!).

Again I am very disappointed. There is a great chance we’ll be leaving this service

I will type modlook into the sidebar tags on this thread for a Staff follow-up. How do I get a Moderator/Staff reply for my question? https://en.support.wordpress.com/getting-help-in-the-forums/#how-do-i-get-a-moderatorstaff-reply-for-my-question

Of course I have tried using live chat support. And I asked to contact a supervisor, since staff is giving me a hard time by avoiding the facts continuously.

And today the 5th of May, we again have a problem with the website! And this is what Chat gave me:

(Me) What is wrong again? Website is slow and my technician cannot log into wordpress.com
In Settings -> People I receive an error

    (Chat) Hi there :)
Your site is loading almost instantly for me here: https://analyst.gr/
Can you please try clearing the browser cache/cookies and then check again?
    >In Settings -> People I receive an error
    Checking, this one.

(Me) I have 3 different colleagues from different locations verifying the same thing. So I can’t just be imagining it
I can give you the names
One is my technician and I do not happen to live with him

(Chat) Yes, on the second attempt. It is taking so long to load for me as well.

The website was actually down. Just checked Google Analytics. It was down just yesterday

  • @dvanalyst could you get screenshots of what you’re seeing on Google Analytics? We can work with you over email.

  • Also I noticed you’ve talked with support over a few different mediums now, some simultaneously, and that’s causing some confusion as well. Let’s stick with one email ticket for now so all of the pertinent information is in one place, if possible.

You could perform a Traceroute to see if there’s somewhere on the way a problem, https://ping.eu/traceroute/

  • Please write back to us here or the email. I’ll try to keep everything consolidated and in one space. Thanks.

Well, I’ve had quiet some chats with staff. And it seems that we cannot find a solution since yesterday. Currently, we are having the issue yet again. The website loads very slowly. I deactivated the plugins that we added since we migrated from bluehost. So there shouldn’t be a problem there.

We are not new at this (website management) and we’ve always been using wordpress. And honestly, if you’d ask me whats wrong, I have absolutely no idea. And I’m not getting a solution from staff either.

*As far as the Google Analytics question is concerned, active users declined and even went down to 0 (live). That’s what I meant.

PS: I’m confused as to where I should get my answers from: Chat or the forum (here).

Just to follow up, from my last chat:

Unfortunately, I don’t see what’s slowling your site, and I’ll need to get a developer to do some tests. A first step would be to delete inactive plugins and themes in the meantime. I’ll put in a request now and we’ll get back to you once we know why your site is loading slowly

And I just tried accessing plugins via the wordpress.com panel and I got an error for that too (“Error fetching plugins on The Analyst”). So literally the only thing I can do, is watch my website take a beating

  • HI there,

I’m confused as to where I should get my answers from: Chat or the forum (here).

Your plan includes Live Chat support, therefore, you can continue working with our staff there. This will keep all of your support history in one place.

  • @dvanalyst, I still recommend troubleshooting further in chat. But you might also try webpagetest.org — it will let you view a timeline of what’s loading on the site and when.

I ran it just now, and the resources from our servers loaded relatively quickly, but there were dozens of outside resource that took about 8 seconds to load. Perhaps you could look at the worst offenders and consider removing those scripts or reducing them. Good luck!
