Very Low CPM
-
Hello,
I started using WordAds last month when I upgraded to premium, and the revenue has been awful. Most of my traffic comes from the U.S. and from what I have read this should be worth at least $1-2 per 1000 ad views. In April my average CPM was $0.17 (60,407 ads = $10.42), and so far in May my average CPM is $0.27 (52,453 ads = $14.22). I understand that the WordAds program is meant to make money and so the revenue is shared, but it seems like you are taking about a 90% cut. This seems extremely unfair to me and if nothing changes I don’t see much choice except to take my content elsewhere and use a different ad program. I am hoping you have some sort of logical explanation for me or that this is some kind of mistake.
Thanks,

Hi there,
from what I have read this should be worth at least $1-2 per 1000 ad views.
There is no fixed rate per number of ads. Online ads work similar to the stock markes, where advertisers bid on ad space on your site in real time as people visit your site. How much they bid fluctuate constantly and depend on multiple factors, including but not limited to, the location of your site visitors, the browser history of site visitors, whether or not those visitors have accepted our advertising cookies which determines whether we can show them targeted ads or must show generic ads which pay less, which other advertisers are bidding at a given time and how much advertisers are bidding in general.
So even with traffic remaining constant and coming from the same place, earnings can fluctuate massively from one month to the next based on changes in the online ad market. This is not specific to WordAds either, but is how it works with other networks like Google’s Adsense as well.
