Very Low CPM
-
Hi, I have been using AdWords this year as a way to support my site. However, they’re very obtrusive, you have ads everywhere but I’m not making any money. The CPM lately has been $0.11. I saw another support question with a similar problem and your staff response was that it should be $1 or $2. If that were the case, it would be worthwhile. As it is, I’m on the verge of turning ads off. How do I improve this situation? When I visit my site, your ads are completely irrelevant to my traffic and users. I should probably do this the old fashioned way and just sell banner ads myself.

Hi, there are a few factors that can affect earnings, among them:
* Visitors with ad blockers, preventing ads from showing
* Visitors leaving before ads can fully load
* A lack of advertisers who bid higher than the minimum price required to display an adBecause of those factors, we’re not able to publish an accurate guide to earnings because a every site is different.
What I’d recommend is keeping an eye on your WordAds earnings. If you find it’s not earning you the kind of revenue you’d like, you may want to consider other ways to monetize your site. For example, since you’re on the Business plan, you can choose to run Google Adsense.
You can can find out more about the choices open to you in this guide:

Is there a way to improve the selection of ads? The ones that I see are completely irrelevant to my readership. Instead, ads which have to do with travel to Japan, travel in general, UFC and other combat sports would do well.
I have one banner ad that I sold by myself as a test last year. He gets a lot of business from me. He can’t wait for our Christmas promotion and he pays me more for that one little banner. But AdWords puts these irrelevant ads all over my page. I thought that with your connections and network AdWords would make sense.
Bottom line, is there a way to work with you and advertisers in your network to improve that selection or do I really just need to do this on my own?

For the kind of solution you mentioned, you’d need to pursue the DIY route (which sounds successful for you) because WordAds doesn’t offer the ability to select advertisers.
It’s worth mentioning that the ads displayed are dynamically generated for individual users, so the ads you see won’t necessarily be the same for all site visitors (this is true for other options like AdSense). -
Thank you for the prompt reply. I do appreciate it.
The ads seem to have zero standards. If I could post screenshots here, I would. I mean, a blank ad that just said, “Click Here.” That’s got the IT Security alarms in my head triggered.
They tell you these ads are individualized, but I am not buying it. It’s not working for my readers, either, clearly. The ads are just senseless and tasteless.

If you’re ads that you don’t feel meet the WordAds quality standard, feel free to use the “Report this Ad” at the bottom of the ad to report it to the WordAds team for their review. Thank you!
