Very new to this stuff, question about connecting my domain…

    My father wants me to build him a new website on wordpress, but it looks like I need to connect a domain before I can begin building. Will this require his site to go down? Will we lose all SEO credit? What is that process like? Thank you, im very new to all of this.

    Hi there!

    You can build the site using the free subdomain (like .wordpress.com or .home.blog) and only map or transfer the custom domain once the site is ready.

    The domain is an address with which others can access the site so, if you point the domain to the new site, the old one will become unavailable.
