Very slow loading/freeze with Typekit custom font on

    Hello,
    I would like to contact you to get help with a typekit issue on my website, i have purchased the custom design extension, when i try to customize the fonts it’s working fine but many times after loading my blog with typekit fonts on, the loading of my blog on the 1st connection is very very slow, results in freeze for 10-15 seconds and when the page is finally loaded the custom fonts are not displayed, i need to refresh byt pressing F5 to see the fonts displayed…after that i can browse the page without problems (probably because the typekit connection/check is done?)

    I have made some attemps in many computers with differents browsers and the result is the same…Sometimes maybe 2 times out of 10 the blog displays correctly with the custom fonts on the 1st connection.

    So when i revert back to default fonts there is absolutely any problem, it’s loading fast at any time !

    So i’m very disapointed with my custom extension as i’m not using it now – I’m suspecting a very slow response from typekit server because the fonts are apprently not hosted on wordpress.com

    I wish that the fonts were hosted on wordpress to avoid this issue – But as a result you can understand that i will not suscribe next year for an new extension …Unless you have a fix for me ?

    Hi,

    Do you get the same result when loading http://allnarfedup.com/ ? (I’m using Custom Fonts on my blog, but haven’t noticed the TypeKit JavaScript loading slowly for me. I use Google Chrome 22.0.1229.94, Safari 6.0.1, and Mozilla Firefox 16.0.1.)

    If you do, can you let me know which resources are loading slowly in Google Chrome (with Developer Tools), and upload a screenshot of the results to your Media Library?

    Thanks for your answer, the URL you mentioned is working fine, i will test more with the dev options and typekit on to see what is happening, i will come back to you asap…. Tnx again for your help!

    If you get things setup the way you’d like on your blog, and you’re seeing sluggishness with custom fonts, can you reply back to this thread so we can take a closer look?

    Hello Bryan,
    I succeed to replicate the issue, the last few days were fine but today it did it again – I was logged in to my admin console and then i did a preview of my website and it happened – The loading was very slow and the computer didn’t respond while it was loading the page…Also after the loading the fonts are not displayed – If i press F5 then i can see them displayed on my blog…I’ve uploaded a screenshot from the dev tools as you mentioned here:

    I’m adding a new screenshot today – you will see on this one it’s different components that cause the lag, but the issue is the same: hangs for a few seconds and when the blog is displayed the custom fonts are not there – when pressing f5 it’s there then.

    Yep no probs for the time frame, hope they’ll be able to solve it.

    Thanks for your patience. In case it might’ve been a network hiccup from Typekit, can you let me know the custom font selections you’ve chosen for your theme so I can try to reproduce it from my end?

    Hello Bryan,
    So the fonts i’m using now are :

    Site title: Raleway (size +2)
    Headings: LFT Etica Display (size +2)
    Body text: None (sometimes i was chosing Museo Sans) but same issue

    Really tricky issue as it’s not happening all the time, so yes it might be some network communication issues with Typekit servers as i thought but not 100% sure…The only thing i’m sure is that it doesn’t happen when custom fonts are off.

    Thanks for the specific details. I wasn’t able to reproduce this right now on my test blog. I’m sorry for the inconvenience.

    We do have plans to improve the font loading, and while I can’t promise a timeframe, I’ll be sure to add your notes for our developers so we can follow up with you after the improvement is committed.

    I have a question – As the issue is not solved i have disable my custom fonts since a few days, as i don’t want my users to have slowdowns – I see that it’s possible to get a refund – How do i apply for it ? I’m not using anymore my custom upgrade so it’s pretty useless for me now – i’m not using css at all as well, i bought the extension only for the fonts…thanks to let me know how can i get this refund. Thanks for your help

    Hi there – while refunds are only available up to 30 days after purchase, since the fonts have not been working well for you, I’ve given you $30 in credits as a courtesy and removed the Custom Design upgrade.
