    Hi there,

    I don’t think there’s a way to do exactly that but you can do something else which can probably work –

    1) Set up a static home page and a separate blog page.
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/front-page/

    2) Put the video on the static home page
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/videos/

    3) Put a link at the bottom of the static home page to explore other pages of the blog (something like ‘enter the blog’).

    I hope this helps in someway :)

    thanks for your response..

    I tried your suggestion and it wasn’t quite what I was referring to.

    I was wondering if something like if when someone goes to the site the first landing page is a video and then there is a prompt underneath to continue to the site… something like this https://sebastianmesserer.com

    Maybe what you’re looking for is a landing page.

    If you watch the video on this page and read the text, you might see the way to get the effect you want…although of course you would want to vary your steps a bit from the demonstration:
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/landing-pages/

    Then you can add a video using the instructions on this page (as provided by @omkarbhagat earlier:

    hi:

    maybe I am not understanding this correctly; but I am not trying to create a one-page website…

    the landing page instructions is saying that all other pages/widgets/post to be deleted and only keep the home page and use the home page to create the landing page. However, how can I lead someone to my website from the landing page if everything has been deleted??

    I was just looking to do a video prelude page which leads to the website like the 2 examples I posted…

  • I think I see what you mean :)

    While there isn’t a built in option for a video only landing page, leading to a full site behind it, you could try creating a similar effect with CSS.

    First, create a Static Front Page

    Set that page to use the Full Width Page template (under Page Attributes) in the page editor.

    Add the video, and the link you want into your page.

    Then, in your Custom CSS, add a style to hide the elements you don’t want to see, by targeting that page’s ID.

    Here’s an example of what that might look like (may not be complete, but should get you started) using your current Contact Us page as an example. Just pretend it’s a video instead of a contact form:

    .page-id-60 #masthead,
    .page-id-60 .site-footer {
        display: none;
    }

    You’d need to swap out the page id with the correct ID for your new home page: https://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/#how-to-find-the-page-id

    Does that sound like what you had in mind?

    Thanks for these instructions. I became interested in how to do this myself…same as the O.P. So here’s a question for you:
    If I follow your instructions, will that also cause the menu(s) to disappear…so that the only thing visible would be the video and a link leading to some other page?

  • @vietnoweditor – that will depend a bit on the theme you are using, as each one is structured differently.

    If your theme has elements that are not hidden by the CSS I’ve used here, you can use your browser inspector to identify the additional items you need to add to that style :)

    staff-loquaciousloon: yes! it works! wow! thank you! :)

    @vietnoweditor: to do this i would follow staff-loquaciousloon suggestion after doing these steps:

    1. you need to create a page titled home. then set the page attribute template to front page.
    2. save home page
    3. create your video page or landing page.
    4. for the video / landing page use the full-width template – not default or front page.
    5. on page attributes, make the home page the parent page and change the order from 0 to 1. The link leading to your site could be coded on the html text box <p style=”text-align:right;”>Enter Site</p>
    It has to have that home ending to lead to your site homepage.
    6. Go to CSS editor and make your video / landing page the static front page.
    7. follow staff-loquaciousloon step here.
    8. save!

    Thanks!
