hi,
how do you embed video? I want to embed this video.. http://vimeo.com/3261363
so I click on “embed”, copy the code.. but of course WP ERASES the code after I paste it in.. folks who KNOW how to hand-code should be ALLOWED to hand-code.. to have to go to a slick JavaScript widget to add a simple think like a link is terribly annoying (has WP given any thought to accessibility? the more JS the less good for accessibility.. they don’t allow users to use JavaScript or Flash but they force you to use JavaScript widgets (or Flash or whatever) to do simple stuff like add a link when in fact that is done very easily by hand.. how do I embed a video pls… do I have to download the video then upload it to WP?? why can’t I just embed it like I did here? http://www.mayacove.com/videos.html
thank you..

A search of the support pages for “vimeo” brought this: http://support.wordpress.com/videos/vimeo/ .

WordPress.COM does not allow direct embeds due to security concerns. Code can be inserted into embed code that can compromise this service so due to these security concerns, direct embeds are not allowed.
See this page for more on the other video shortcodes and services that can be used here: http://support.wordpress.com/?s=video .
The vodpod button for wordpress can be used to display videos from virtually any source in blogs here at wordpress.COM.

ok, thank you.. seems more complicated than me copying the code to embed, but oh well.. (so if I want to embedd a video from YouTube I have to search for “youtube” and find out what is the code for YouTube? oh man..) why don’t they allow you to paste the code to embed? it’s much simpler…
(btw, the default dimensions they have for video is old, pre-HD.. they should switch to HD dimensions.. 400×225….:)
thank you for yr help..

You will find this WordPress YouTube FAQ to be helpful with the embedding process –> Videos » YouTube

It has to do with security. Flash embeds aren’t allowed here. All you have to do is in the post editor, switch to the HTML tab, then click the “add video” button, click on “from URL” tab and paste the URL of the youtube video into the “URL” field and click “insert into post.” If you are on another site or blog, when you click the button for the embed code, it shows both the embed code AND the URL of the video. Using this method, wordpress will size the video display for the theme you are using to the maximum width for the post area of the theme you are using, otherwise using the embed code alone might bring the video in too wide and that will break your blog.
