Video as Home Page

    Hello,
I’m new to wordpress, and have used other sites for my blog, but am transitioning it to a more efficient website.

However, I figured out most of the things I need except two.

    1. Is there a way I can make the page that viewers first see when going into my website a video? such as these site,

    http://mediaboom.com/home
    http://www.myprovence.fr/snapshots2012/en

Or the First half of the homepage? The reason why I dont refer to it as the home page being a video, is because I would like when my viewers to click into the site, for it to be lead to my latest posts.
Maybe there is a template that would make it easier?

    and
    2. How do I change my font size?! Ive been reading countless of forums and you tube videos, but they are for WordPress.ORG, It’s imperative for me to have SOME sort of way to change my font per post.

All the help would be appreciated. Thank you

  • Your blog’s landing page shows your main feed, latest posts at the top, by default. If you don’t want it to show that you can set up a static home page in which you can embed a video if you want and have your posts appear on another page. Follow the instructions here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/front-page/

Note that in order to upload videos to your media library you will need to purchase the space upgrade. You can embed videos uploaded to other sites like Youtube without the upgrade: http://en.support.wordpress.com/videos/

You can change your font size for individual posts by adding some html code: http://en.support.wordpress.com/editors/styling-individual-posts-and-pages/#changing-the-default-font-size-and-color

To change font size and colour globally for the entire blog you’ll need to add CSS code to your theme. This is only possible with the Custom Design upgrade. See here for more info on purchasing the custom design upgrade:

Hi daysoffla, I just wanted to check back in to see if you found the information you needed?

For the record, there aren’t currently any full screen video options like the sites you linked to earlier, but that’s a great idea and I made a note of your suggestion.

Regarding fonts, the Custom Design upgrade is setup to allow quick font pairing selections for titles and body text but if you are trying to change fonts per post, then it may depend a little more on exactly what you’re trying to do. Would it help if you could make some lines heading-sized? Or did you want to make more specific font size changes? If you still need help, could you give me a little more detail in a more specific example?

    Hello Desing Simply,
Thank You for confirming that I can not set up a video full screen because thats initially what I would like to do.

However, is there a way to add a video on my home page where my latest post, making the video large? and it not affecting my latest posts.

    For example,
I know that I can just keep my blog as is with the my latest posts and just copying, cutting, and then pasting on the lastest posts so it remains at the top part of my site, But I am affraid that by entering a code that could make my video Large, will also affect my latest posts, I dont want my actual blog content to be stretched out and affected by the video.

    As for the Text,

I would just like my posts to have some character.
I would like to be able to change my text font for certain letters, and overall. I do not like the default font word press has provided and there fore would like to switch it, and make headers on things a type larger, or smaller. Would I have to enter a mini code before and after each word?
Thank you for your help, it is extremely appreciated.

Hi, you can set a static front page (as mentioned above) for your site, and then we can target that particular page and make the content area wider, and you can put a larger video there. It would not show your posts, but you could have the larger video as the landing page for your site.

Another thing that comes to mind although I’m not sure how difficult it would be, would be to widen the blog page and set a sticky post for your video, which would remain at the top of the main blog page. I’ve not tried to widen a blog page for a Sticky Post and then try and keep the other posts at the same width they originally were. Book Lite is a responsive theme design, which adjusts the content width for browser window widths and smaller screens such as tablets and phones, so this may take a good bit of work to accomplish. I’m not even entirely sure this can be done.
