Video crunching
-
Hi,
Upgraded our blog to premium yesterday mainly for video uploads and storage.
I’m trying to upload a .mov file (128mb)
It has successfully uploaded but has been crunching for over 30 mins.
Using latest version of Chrome. Mov file was taken on an iPhone and then copied to my hard drive where I’m uploading it from.
Should it take this long?Help !!!

Hi Rory,
The exact processing time for video uploads can vary based on a number of variables, so it may take 30 minutes or more to complete processing. As long as the upload successfully completed, you should be fine. If your video still isn’t working or if you have other questions about this, please let me know!

Hi Rachel
I’m getting the following message when using the the browser uploader
This webpage is not available
The webpage at http://5thwicklowwednesdaycubs.wordpress.com/wp-admin/media-new.php might be temporarily down or it may have moved permanently to a new web address.
Error 103 (net::ERR_CONNECTION_ABORTED): Unknown error.I’m trying the multi file uploader but that’s where I’m getting the non stop crunching.
Thanks

Hi again,
So after posting this morning I tried to upload the file again.
It has been now just short of 3 hours which for a file 128mb in size I find hard to fathom.
Can someone please explain why it’s taking so long and why the browser uploader isn’t working either.Again I’ve just upgraded to premium after successfully getting the cost approved by our finance committee.
One of the main reasons we upgraded was to have the video capabilities.
If we can’t use it I’ll have to cancel the upgradeThanks

Hi Rory,
Thank you for following up about this — I will be happy to troubleshoot the issue with you to get the VideoPress upgrade working. Can you please try the following troubleshooting steps to start with:
* Try disabling any browser extensions. Here is a link with instructions for doing that in Chrome:
http://support.google.com/chrome/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=187443* Try downloading a different browser and checking to see if you can upload the video with that browser
* Try disabling any firewall or security software you may have recently installed on your computer
If none of those steps resolve the issue, please let me know and we can continue looking into this!

Hi Rachel,
I tried using IE this time and it worked straight away.
Is there an issue with Chrome? Thanks for the support on this.

Hi again,
I’m getting problems this time with IE.
When using the multi file uploader it’s says the file size is too large.
And when using the browser uploader it’s timing out without uploading.I’m going to try with firefox but this is getting ridiculous.
Why advertise video upload if it’s not working?Rory

Hi Rory,
The video upload should work with the latest versions of popular browsers (including Chrome), so I will keep working on this to resolve the issues you are experiencing.
You mentioned that the multi-file uploader gives you a message that the file size is too large. Can you let me know the size of the video you are trying to upload? Any other details about the file (the video format, the filename, etc.) will also help me troubleshoot this problem.

Hi again,
Problem seems to be resolved.
I used IE at home and worked fine.
Could have been a bandwidth issue. But it’s still not working on Chrome
Thanks

Hi Rory,
I’m glad you were able to successfully upload the video. Would you like to keep troubleshooting the issue in Chrome with me? I couldn’t reproduce the problems you were having, but I can keep looking at it with you if you would like.
If you would like to keep troubleshooting this in Chrome, can you please try the following:
1. Try opening an incognito window (Chrome Menu Button > New Incognito Window) and then upload the video in that window.
2. Try disabling any anti-virus or firewall software on your computer.
If you can let me know what happens when you try those steps, that will help me figure out what might be happening to cause this problem. If you can share a screenshot of what you see, that will also help. You can upload screenshots to your Media Library under Media > Add New or use a site like Snaggy.

Hi Rachel,
Thanks again for the continued support. I’ll take a look at this again at home and see what happens.
On a side note, our Scout Group has a website already and it’s registered as brayseascouts.org but I would like to use wordpress to redesigned it and keep it up to date.
Is this possible and what would be the best way to go about it?Thanks

Do let me know what happens when you try the upload again at home. :)
On a side note, our Scout Group has a website already and it’s registered as brayseascouts.org but I would like to use wordpress to redesigned it and keep it up to date.
Is this possible and what would be the best way to go about it?You can use a domain name that you already own with a WordPress.com site by using our Domain Mapping upgrade. You can find detailed instructions for setting this up here: Map an Existing Domain
You may also be interested in installing WordPress.org on your existing website hosting service. (Just to clarify, the WordPress.org software is separate from WordPress.com.) You can read more about the differences between WordPress.com and WordPress.org here: WordPress.com and WordPress.org
Please let me know if you have any questions about that.
