Video embed in text widget, html in widgets
-
Hey WP people,
I’m new here, just experiementing with widgets. I have the following two problems:
1. I cannot add a youtube video embed code in my text widget. Here is the code (I changed, obviously the size as my sidebar is not that wide):
<object width="181" height="111"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/5spt_gDrIFo&hl=en"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/5spt_gDrIFo&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="181" height="111"></embed></object>Also, if I add this code to a new post, the video appears in the original, standard youtube size – wonder why!
2. There is the author’s profile page, I’m talking about this area:
http://vergiftet.wordpress.com/author/vergiftet/
and from some sort of a strange reason it does not recognize html codes at all!!!!!!!!! (See, I have too many pages so I don’t want to add another page even if it’s a subpage, thus I thought I would just add this widget to my site with my basic intro). I don’t want to add anything extra, just
or <p> so that it wouldn’t look messy!Any help or info is very welcome.

You have to post youtubes differently here: http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/07/29/how-do-i-post-a-youtube-video/
The only thing you can do in the author’s widget is change the title, and select how many posts to show for each author. It isn’t really like an “about me” widget.
To make an “about me” widget, use the text widget which allows HTML. Do be aware that you cannot put all the stuff you have at /author/vergiftet/ into a text widget. It will have to be shortened up to just a few lines though.
