video header on Storefront theme.

    Hi –

I’ve seen a few storefront themes with video headers. Having researched this it appears that there are a few ways of achieving this with plugins / add-ons but not with the standard storefront theme.

I’ve also seen that this can be achieved by adding code – can someone share a walkthrough please?

    Thanks

  • Hi there,

You’re in the wrong forum. To get help with the WooCommerce plugin you need to post in this forum:

    https://wordpress.org/support/plugin/woocommerce

The forums you are currently posting are for providing support to WordPress.com hosted sites only.

    Hi fstat.

I’m asking a question about a header in a theme, not specifically a woocommerce question. I’m sure there are other themes that don’t allow video headers straight out of the tin, and code that might fix that would probably work here too. The site is wordpress.com hosted. Do you have any coding suggestions that might help?

    Thanks

  • In this case, I recommend asking at https://wordpress.org/support/theme/storefront/ so the theme’s developers and support community can help you with this.

Thanks macmanx I will try that, but as I said above I’m really just asking for a bit of code, and that, one would think, would be fairly standard whatever the theme.

TBH I think if a plugin is bundled in a wordpress.com package then wordpress.com rather than org would be the place to seek support. It may well be that the forum isn’t the place and I should be asking a ‘happiness engineer’, but I do pay for support in my package and support was a major factor in hosting on wordpress.com

If we were talking about third party plugins it would be more understandable to go to the plugin page, but both the theme and woocommerce are automattic products. Looking at the job description of a happiness engineer (2nd item below) it would seem entirely reasonable to ask questions about those products here.

    Happiness Engineer
As a Happiness Engineer, you love helping people.

Transforming publishing on the web is no small task. Our goal is to build relationships based on trust which result in happy, passionate, loyal customers and colleagues. We do this through listening to their needs and guiding them to the fullest use of the products we offer. We are looking for people with the right mix of compassion, writing skills, and technical knowledge to get the job done.

In general, a typical day involves:

Being an active member of a global team that provides 24/7 support via live chat, tickets, forums, and one-on-one screenshare sessions.
Helping people use Automattic’s products, including WordPress.com, WooCommerce, Jetpack, and more.
Troubleshooting, investigating, and creating detailed bug reports.
Building a community of support by sharing knowledge and helping team members around the world.

  • Ah, got it. Not every Happiness Engineer covers every area of support, and while we can answer often answer basic questions before pointing you to the correct support forum, theme development is outside the scope of what we offer (even in the correct forum).

If you are looking for custom development, we currently recommend this resource.

  • Also if you are handy with code and just need tips for modifying a theme to add a video, this may help:

Know though this is outside our wheelhouse so I can’t promise that will work perfectly, but it might help you get started.
