Video integration troubles
-
Hi there !
After posting on the French WP forum I was advised to post again here. Let’s try so sum up things !
When embedding a video onto my blog with the “add media” link to a YT video, the video is immediately turned into a thumbnail. Good but how am I supposed to add the &start command to make sure the video is read from a specific time ? I tried several things but in the end the only thing that worked was
1. Writing [youtube=
2. Then copy/paste the video url
3. close with &start=xxx]Hope you see what I mean and can tell me what’s wrong ! I’m using Firefox btw if someone cares :) Thank you for your heavy work !

When we need Staff help with issues Volunteers cannot resolve in other support forums like this one we type modlook into the sidebar tags on our forum threads. I did that for you. How do I get a Moderator/Staff reply for my question? https://en.support.wordpress.com/getting-help-in-the-forums/#how-do-i-get-a-moderatorstaff-reply-for-my-question Then we subscribe to this thread so we are notified when they respond. Thanks for the tip ! I should have remembered tho as I already posted here once but guess it was about one year ago, so… I forgot ;)
I’m pretty good at finding bugs tho, last time my trouble did not meet any solution. Better luck this time ?

Hi there!
At what time are you wanting to start the video. Remember, you’ll need to convert the time from minutes to seconds:
To start at a certain point in the video, convert the time of that point from minutes and seconds to all seconds, then add that number as shown (using an example start point of 1 minute 15 seconds):
[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WVbQ-oro7FQ&start=75 ]from: https://en.support.wordpress.com/videos/youtube/
Let me know if you continue to have trouble. If you provide the video link, I’d be happy to test it on my end.
Thanks!

Hi and thanks for the fast answer !
Hmm I don’t think I made myself clear enough here :) I’ve been used to the [youtube= …. &start=180] command for about one year now but things have shown differently in the last weeks. By the way since I really don’t like the new interface, I’m still adding wp-admin to my blog url to keep using the old interface.
1. When I click the “add media” link and choose “a YT video” I still copy and paste the link of the desired video.
2. But once I get back to my article, the link/command is instantly turned into a thumbnail.
3. I tried clicking the thumbnail and choose “modify” to add the command that allows the video to start from a specific time point but it is not taken into account :(
4.. I tried typing manually the full thing like [youtube=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ag6SVXu_oBI&start=188] but guess what : once again it turns into a thumbnail but won’t start from a specific point but from the very beginning.I had to go into “html” mode to be able to type the command mentioned above and there it worked but as you can guess it is quite a lot of work ! Right now I’m copying/pasting such lines from other articles and then change the YT url… sure it works but it shouldn’t be this way…

Hi @stsurvivor , I hope you don’t mind me jumping in to help.
If you’re looking for less work, try simply pasting the Youtube URL into its own line in your post, like this:
No shortcode required. That &t=0m10s at the end of this address makes the video start ten seconds in.
That’s even faster than adding media. Want to give that a try?

@Supernovia : great ! It works like this and indeed I tried modifying the embedded video and replaced your command by &start=10 and it works as well ! All I had to do was forget about the brackets and the youtube= command at start ! I wish someone had told me about that &t command before so that I wouldn’t have spent so much time converting starting point into seconds ;)
Things are easier when you do know how they work out :) Thanks again !
