Video is not visible in the posting.
-
I posted a video on my blog last night. Sometimes it is visible, and sometimes it is not. I’ve had the same results using Explorer and Netscape. How may I adjust the settings to be sure it is visible. Currently, I’ve placed a link to the Youtube version of the video. The URL is http://wgecho.org/2014/02/06/echo-newscast-feb-5-2014/.
Thanks. The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I’m really not understanding this. I went and looked at past posted videos and they are also not showing up. Also a slideshow I posted is inconsistently available with a message about JavaScript being required. Why would it work sometimes and not others? Also I looked at a slideshow and video I posted on another WordPress site, and there were no issues there.
I really need to know what’s going on.

I replied to the email instead of the forum. My apologies.
My message on Saturday was:
“I’m not having issues with the link to the Youtube, but with the ones I’ve posted through WordPress. When I just looked, these were not visible on Explorer but were on Netscape. Also I’m having an “Needs JavaScript” type error on my slideshows.

I guess I just don’t understand why visibility is so unpredictable.

Can you please try clearing out your cache and cookies using the guide below?
-
I cleared the cache and cookies, but Netscape is still not showing the videos and insists that JavaScript is not available for the slideshows, whereas on Explorer, everything is working fine. Since it is the same machine, I cannot account for why on some days, Explorer works with WordPress video and on some days, Netscape does, but neither do all the time. The same thing occurs on my computer at home.
-
Do you also encounter this issue in a different browser? for example Firefox or Google Chrome?
-
I do encounter the issue with Firefox. I have cleared the cookies and cache from Firefox. Then closed and reopened it, and then tried the video and slideshow with the same results. Also I just tried with Chrome and had the same results.
My concern is that the people visiting may or may not know to try various browsers, and also that the same browsers tend to provide unpredictable results. Right now the only one that seems to show the video and slideshow is Explorer, but at various times that has not been true and Firefox or Netscape would show the video and slideshows.
-
We’ve tested it on multiple computers and it’s working fine on our end. Have you tested a different computer? or from a different Internet connection?
Thank you.
-
Yes, I’ve tried it on my computer at home and on my Nook. This morning, on Firefox, it shows fine, but on Explorer, it does not.
-
The fact it works in Firefox means that the issue is browser related. Could you please try and reset Internet Explorer? http://malwaretips.com/blogs/reset-internet-explorer-settings/
If that doesn’t work then please send us a screenshot. You can simply upload the screenshot to your Media Library, like any other image, and I’ll be able to access it from there. The page at the following link has some helpful tips for taking screenshots: http://en.support.wordpress.com/make-a-screenshot/

I’m at work now, where the view on Explorer seems fine, but on Firefox I have the issue.
How would you like me to attach the screen shot to this forum?

How would you like me to attach the screen shot to this forum?
You can upload them to your blog’s Media Library as described in my previous reply. I can look into the library once it has been uploaded.

When I logged out of WordPress, Explorer no longer had the video visible, so I made a screen capture of that as well and the put them in the library.

This guide will help you through the process of enabling JavaScript: http://support.google.com/adsense/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=12654 . Could you please give that a try?
Also make sure that you disable any browser extensions or anti-virus/malware software to see if those are blocking something.

Good evening,
I used the directions to enable JavaScript, only to find that in both Explorer and Firefox, both were (at least on my home computer) already enabled. The thing is on other WordPress sites, I’m not seeing this issue, and even for wgecho.org, it is an consistent issue. When I’m logged in, I see the videos and slideshows fine, but when I logout. I get the errors described. Because I’d like not to inconvenience our readers, I’d like to figure out how to fix it if possible.
-
Also, I just tried turning off my Internet protection completely and had the same result–an absent video and a “JavaScript required” message for the slideshow–using both Firefox and Explorer.
Then I tried on my wife’s computer and had no better success using Explorer.
-
What kind of protection software were you running exactly? Do you have more of these running? It sounds like something is blocking Javascript.
Have you tried on a computer that’s on a different Internet Connection? or on a mobile device?
-
My computer uses Norton. My wife’s uses Kaspersky. I’m not sure what the computer at work uses.
If it is true that something is blocking JavaScript, then why wouldn’t it affect the videos and slideshows on wgbc63119.org, which is also a WordPress site, on the same computer.
I have used the Internet connection at home and at work. I’ve used my Nook, and I’ve used my work computer, my wife’s computer and my own. The thing is, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t, and I can’t find a pattern.
