Video not displaying as I want it to
-
I’ve uploaded an mp4 video created in after-effects successfully. Its dimensions are 800 x 400 pixels. It shows on a page at http://www.xenoplanets.com quality doesn’t look too bad but the skin is not what I’d ideally choose and the footprint is wrong – I’d like this to run at 800 pixels ideally, but I could resize and re-upload at 750 pixels if necessary (or I could change the template). On the face of it yours looks like a pretty good solution, it may be I’m not embedding correctly – all suggestions gratefully received.

It actually isn’t carl201010.wordpress.com, it’s http://www.xenoplanets.com but when it’s cooked I’ll change the URL to http://www.tinylanets.com. :)

Hi,
Can you try forcing the height/width attributes by using this shortcode instead:
[wpvideo Nl31gPjd w=800 h=400]?Typically, VideoPress will try to fill the entire width as indicated by your theme, so before trying a different theme or diving in deeper, let’s see if this simple workaround will take care of you.
Cheers!

Many thanks kraftbj, that helped a lot. A couple of other points; how do I get rid of the videopress logo? Nothing personal, it’s just not our brand ;) I’d assumed this was part of the upgrade – or do I need to step up from there? Other tags: – can you set autoplay to true (this may be a daft question, I should just try it but I’ve started typing now…!) and I’m seeing a bit of a size mismatch between the place holder image and the video – just a couple of pixels, it may be down to the template re-sizing slightly and again, the quickest answer might be to resize the video and see.
If there’s a full list of tags available, that would be helpful too… Thanks again!

Ah, I see that to autoplay to equal true you actually have to type autoplay=true… Fiendish! It has the odd side-effect of causing the skin to stay visible until you manually change focus, but anyway. And good old IE10… So everything else default to HD but IE10 – oh no, that would be way too easy. Is there any way to club Internet Explorer into submission and get it to play HD by default? Autoplay sidesteps the thumbnail question, but it would still be good to know what the options here are. Many thanks!

Hi Carl,
If visit https://carl201010.wordpress.com/wp-admin/options-media.php, toward the bottom you can specify an alternative logo to appear on your video instead of our VideoPress graphic. If you don’t want to show one at all, you can save one of these transparent graphics and upload it to your site as an alternative: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Transparent.gif
We have a few attributes for VideoPress.
- w=X for width
- h=Y for height
- hd=true/false to force HD playback
- freedom=true/false to force only use open-source video formats
- autoplay=true/false as you know.
- html5only=true/false to use HTML 5 only (no Flash)
If you have any questions, please let me know. Cheers!
