Video on Baskerville 2

I have a problem with putting a video on a blog. In the livedemo of Basekerville 2 you can see on the frontpage a blog with a video. You can watch the video directly on the frontpage. I tryed this also. Added a new blog, clicked “video” format and added the video in the blog. But the video is not appearing in the frontpage. Only the title from the blog. What can I do to make the video appear on the frontpage please?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi gusteli,

I just tried to replicate your issue on my test site, but the video displayed correctly for me.

Could you try to add one more blog post just with the direct link to your video in the body please?

I am sure we will solve this issue. :)
    Thanks.

  • Hi @gusteli,

I also looked into this a little bit and discovered that there’s a few points to note here.

The video used in the Baskerville 2 demo is a Vimeo hosted clip. Videos from this host will display like the way it’s shown in the demo. Youtube videos also seem to work fine as well.

Now, I also did manage to have a quick look at your site and found the video post you might’ve been referring to here. The thing that’s stumping me is I see that this video is using WordPress’ very own VideoPress and it’s not able to display in the same was as the demo. I’m guessing this is due to the player’s lightweight-ness? To be honest, this is something I’m not sure of. If however you’re still interested in the cause of it, you can type in modlook in the sidebar to have staff follow up on this issue.

  • Hi pauloeaquino,

I think the issue is not related to VideoPress – I was able to add VideoPress video (https://videopress.com/v/oeg7annD) to my Baskerville 2 demo site successfully:

  • Ah, I see it there. Thanks for that clarification @ivanottinger

Hi @gusteli: This behaviour is due to your home page being set to display excerpts for each blog post, rather than the default full blog post.

Links, images, auto-embeds, or other elements that rely on HTML code aren’t included in automatic excerpts by default.

There’s two options for you here:

    1. Navigate to the Content Options panel of the WordPress.com Customizer and set the home page to display full blog posts.

    2. Manually copy/paste the VideoPress shortcode to the post’s custom excerpt field.

Take a look and let us know if questions come up.

Just trying this good theme and have the same problem with youtube video. The video will not appear when you add some other text into your video post. To get rid off this problem you have to insert “Read More” tag after the video and before the text (when you are in visual editor mode).
Give it a try and good luck.
