Video Posts Won’t Embed Video at the Start of Posts

  • Unknown's avatar

The new interface for creating posts now uses these ‘blocks’. This has been helpful for formatting my posts, however, I’m having trouble with placing videos at the front end of my posts. I use to be able to create a ‘video’ post and embed a video that would appear with the title of the post. Now I can’t seem to get the video posts to show. My posts use the featured image instead, which is not what I want. Any ideas on this?

  • Howdy –

I’d like to take a closer look. Can you share a link to a post that is having this issue?

    Hi Liz,
Thanks for the help! Happy New Year!

Here is a link to the post:

    Post Missing Video at Start

You can see there is a blank spot where the video should go before the title of the blog post. Just don’t know where to do the video/URL embed that use to pop-up when you elect to make the post the “video format”.

    Thanks for the help!

This is what the post should look like when you have made it a video post (video appears before title of blog post):

This post was made before WordPress started using the “blocks” and changed interface for creating posts.

  • Hi there,

Your site is not actually a WordPress.com site, but using the open source version of WordPress found on WordPress.org.

The video feature you’re referring to looks like it’s something that’s added by your theme, so the people who made that theme are the best place to ask for help with this – if I had to guess they haven’t made that theme fully compatible with the block editor yet.

You can find their website here:

Please use the support options on that site to get help with this.
