Video Press

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello

I have signed up to wordpress.com for a Premium account and want to use video press on my self hosted website: http://www.love4lifecaresingers.co.uk

I was able to upload the plugin and a video but then got an error message saying the site was not allowed to embed videos using video press.

I signed up to wordpress.com thinking this would allow me to use video press on whatever self hosted websites I wanted to use it on, is this not the case?

Do I need a wordpress.com account and then need to upgrade each self – hosted website I want to use video press on?

I was a little confused as I saw on the video press website that it cost $60 per Year but then when I clicked to buy I could only see the different wordpress.com account packages, is it possible to buy video press for $60 per year, per self hosted website without a wordpress.com account or do you have to have a wordpress.com account and then plus $60 per year per self hosted website for video press?

    Thanks for your support
    David

    Howdy David!

If you have VideoPress or a Premium bundle setup on a WordPress.com site, you should be able to use VideoPress on your self-hosted site. You will just need to install the plugin mentioned here:

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/video/

From there, you should be asked to sign-in to your WordPRess.com account. Were you able to do that? To answer your other question, you should be able to use one Premium bundle/VideoPress upgrade for a group of self-hosted sites.

I was able to upload the plugin and a video but then got an error message saying the site was not allowed to embed videos using video press.

If you have installed the plugin and logged into WordPress.com, could you upload a screenshot of the error message you’re receiving to your WordPress.com account?

    Take a Screenshot

I was a little confused as I saw on the video press website that it cost $60 per Year but then when I clicked to buy I could only see the different wordpress.com account packages

To help simplify the store experience, we recently removed individual upgrades and moved to a plan-only upgrade system. The Premium bundle is now the main method of getting the VideoPress upgrade.

    Hello

Thanks for your reply, I’ve taken a video of the process of uploading a video so you can see what is going wrong.

On this page I’ve embedded a Youtube video of the error I am getting: http://love4lifecaresingers.co.uk/error-video

On this page is the error message: http://love4lifecaresingers.co.uk/test-run

Hope this helps to see what is going wrong. You may need to change the resolution of the video to 720p hd.

    Many thanks
    David

    Hi David,

Thanks so much for that video! Very helpful. Can you try the following?

    1. Upload a video to your WordPress.com Media Library here:

      https://love4lifeorganisation.wordpress.com/wp-admin/upload.php

    2. Copy the shortcode you find when clicking on the video as shown here:

      http://d.pr/i/lI2P

    3. Paste that code into a test page on your self-hosted site

    Hello

Works perfectly on the wordpress.com website.

When embedding the code into self hosted site it worked at first but then same error message came up.

    Cheers
    Dave

    Hi Dave,

Can you try embedding the following shortcode on your self-hosted site again?

    Hi Jeremey

embedded the code about 10 minutes ago into self-hosted website and is still working correctly: http://love4lifecaresingers.co.uk/test-run

    Where was I going wrong?

    Cheers

Hmm…did you happen to remove that code? It’s not appearing for me.

    A few things:

    1. Instead of uploading the plugin, can you install the VideoPress Jetpack module here?

      http://love4lifecaresingers.co.uk/wp-admin/admin.php?page=jetpack

From that page, enter “video” in the search box shown here:

      http://d.pr/i/Bns4

Click on the VideoPress module and use the bottom right-hand “Activate” button. You should be able to disable the plugin and remove it from your site at that point. Then, when you go back through the same steps (in Jetpack), you should see “Configure” instead of “Activate”

    2. Make sure the correct blog (love4lifeorganisation.wordpress.com) is selected here:

      http://d.pr/i/1gR0n

    3. When you upload at WordPress.com, you’ll want to make sure this share option is selected:

      http://d.pr/i/xhrE

From my testing, that’s the perfect storm for magic here. Can you give that a try?

    Hi Jeremey

Thanks for email, yes I unchecked the share button and then deleted the videos from wordpress.com. The issue is I need to make the videos private where people viewing are unable to share them as I want them to be viewed in a members only area. I’m thinking perhaps it’s just not working for me and I might be better off signing up to Vimeo Pro.

I copied and pasted the following URL: http://love4lifecaresingers.co.uk/wp-admin/admin.php?page=jetpack
Then got error code on desktop: Uh-oh, something went wrong! Error Code: 500

When I did the same on Ipad it came up as saying I didn’t have the permission to view the page.

If I were to install the Jetpack but then unable to not have the ‘share’ option on the videos, it would unfortunately not be viable for me to use the plugin.

    Cheers
    Dave

    Hi Dave,

Unfortunately, you will need to enable the sharing option on your video in order for this to work so I’m not sure it’s the best option for you.

If you decide to go with the Vimeo Pro account, I can cancel your Premium bundle trial so you’re not charged moving forward.

    Hi Jeremey

That is a shame, I will have to use Vimeo instead as I need to disable sharing and I’ve seen this can be done with them.

Thank you very much for looking into this matter for me and yes please can you cancel the Premium bundle trial so no charges will be made.

    All the best
    Dave

    Hey Dave,

I’ve cancelled the Premium bundle from your account. I’m sorry we weren’t able to get this working how you would like it to!

No problem Jeremey, many thanks for trying.

    All the best
