Video press

I am looking for a video solution.
I am thinking of adding a membership plugin and hosting videos in my WordPress site.
Currently wordpress has a 50mb limit to the size of video you can upload.
Is Videopress a good solution for me given I can upload up to 1gb videos. Is this a video hosting solution?
Are the videos privacy protected? I.e. Is it difficult for viewers to download the videos to their computer?
Thanks.
Mark

Hey Mark!
WordPress.com does not offer the option to install third-party plugins. If you would like more control over plugins and the option to install your own, a WordPress.org setup would be the best solution for you.
This page explains the differences between WordPress.com and WordPress.org in more detail, if you’re interested:
WordPress.com has a lot of built-in features that were inspired by popular plugins. Chances are, the feature you are looking for is already there! You can search our support site via this link:

We’ve had good success with file sizes up to 1 GB. You can try file sizes up to 1.4 GB, but your experience may vary. Remember, uploading big files can take a long time!

When you upload a video to your site, you will see the following option in your settings:

I hope this helps! If you have any other concerns, drop me a note. Thanks much!

Hi. I think we are misunderstanding each other. I already have a wordpress.org site. It is howtotunepianos.com.
I want to host videos on my site. 1gb is plenty.
I would like some protection against others downloading my videos.
Does video press do all these things?
Where are the videos hosted?
What format?
What player?
Thanks.

When you use VideoPress on your self-hosted site (with Jetpack activated), the video player will render as an HTML5 or Flash embed on your site. Not impossible to download them, but it’s one of the best solutions available for video embedding and most people do not have the tools to retrieve them readily available.
To see what I mean, attempt to download the “Snow: It’s Back” videos embedded here:
Where are the videos hosted?
When using VideoPress, the videos files are still stored in your self-hosted environment, but are duplicated and stored on our WordPress.com media servers too (which is why a Premium plan WordPress.com account is required.)
What format?
You can upload videos in any of these formats:
VideoPress will then converts your uploaded video file into MP4 and Ogg formats on our media servers. Our MP4 files are encoded with H.264 video and AAC audio lossy compression codecs. Ogg files are encoded with Theora video and Vorbis audio lossy compression codecs.
All files are optimized for progressive loading, enabling viewers to play your video while it downloads.
What player?
The Video player attempts to render in HTML5, and then backs up to Flash if the browser cannot load the HTML5 element.
Lots of this information, and some of the details of using VideoPress on Jetpack, can be found here:
