video press doesn't really hit the spot yet

I am using video press and so far its just a lot of extra fiddling around for not much happiness.

I have a very basic theme running ‘twenty sixteen’ I have upgraded to premium so that i can use the video features. I have instead the video into the Header Media area however now when i look on a mobile phone at the site the previous still image is all that shows and i am told its because of bandwidth? I mean what is the point? Of having it if it doesn’t work on a mobile? in this day and age?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there, That’s really more a theme issue (your above site is using “Full Frame“) rather than a videopress issue. Themes that support a video header usually have you upload a still image as an alternate for mobile and as you mentioned the reason is to cut down on data transfer for users on mobile.

Regardless, I have gone ahead and tagged this thread for Staff attention to note your feedback.

  • Hi there,

Video headers have nothing to do with VideoPress. They’re something completely different.

VideoPress allows you to upload videos to your media library and embed a video player directly into a post or page.

Video headers are something specifically programmed into the theme and it loads the video directly via HTML – it doesn’t use a video player. Most themes that use video headers use a fall-back image for the mobile version of the page, both to conserve data but also because the code that is used to create video headers is not supported by most mobile browsers.

However, the site you indicated is on the Full Frame and that theme doesn’t have support for video headers at all, nor does Twenty-Sixteen, so I’m not sure where you are even seeing the option to add a video to the header.

You can find our themes that have special support for video, including video headers, here:
