Video Press Vs Vimeo

I have a Vimeo account and thinking of not renewing my account.

I have a few questions about Video Press.

I’m working on piano lessons for my students.

I don’t want them to be shareable or downloadable, is this possible with video Press?

With Vimeo I have to purchase a professional account because my videos are for my business.

Can I get Premium or do I need to purchase the professional plan?

I currently have 3 websites that my Jetpack is associated with, am I able to use my plan with any of my websites or do I have to pay for 3 different plans?

What’s the best reason to buy Video Press?

    Thanks

    It’s Muse Piano Academy.com

  • Hi there,

I see that is a self-hosted site using the WordPress.org software, so you might be able to make downloading and sharing more difficult with certain plugins, but there’s no way to block it. If it’s online, it can be downloaded by someone determined enough.

What I would perhaps recommend is that you added a subscription/paygate plugin to your site, so only people who are members can have access to the videos. The folk in the WordPress.org forums would be able to give you more advice about that.

As for Vimeo vs VideoPress, Vimeo is a video hosting service like Youtube. So you upload your videos to them, and you embed them on your site, but they’re not actually ON your site. Your site is fetching them from somewhere else.

VideoPress allows you to upload video files directly to your media library. The videos are stored on WordPress.com’s servers, so won’t take up storage space or bandwith with your hosting provider, but effectively they’re on your site and not being embedded from an outside service. Jetpack Premium comes with 13GB storage space for this, and Professional with unlimited storage.

Thanks so much for answering my questions.

I understand that it’s still possible to download the videos.

When you say “subscription/paygate plugin to your site, so only people who are members can have access to the videos.”

I have Woo Commerce: subscriptions and memberships. If everything is in place like settings and etc. Would that be enough?

I’ll check out the link for support shortly.

    Thanks

Based on the description here the Memberships extension should do that, yes. If you need any help with setting that up, you can reach Woo support via this link:
