Video resolution & screen size on Freshy

Hello. I have installed a little video made with iMovie HD. It is 352 x 288. It appears very small within a black screen that I don’t like. The directions say I may increase the width to fit my post. If I do that, will it decay the resolution? What video width will fit my Freshy theme’s post column? The movie looked fine on my MacBookPro screen when I created it. Is this a WordPress.com problem or an iMovie problem? For now, I am having limited success by going to my main menu bar on my Mac and clicking on View>Zoom. I went to the Forum, but there were no answers to people with similar questions. ;-( I gave some thought to buying the video upgrade, but I’m not sure I’ll keep it if I can’t get some more quality. Any help? Thanks so much for you time.

This may help you with the sizing > Maximum displayed image widths > http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2009/07/23/maximum-image-width/

I did a forum search for resizing videos. Although the videos in these threads are youtubes I thought there might be some useful information found in them. if that’s not the case, then I apologize in advance. https://en.forums.wordpress.com/search.php?q=resize+youtube+video

Thank you timethief. I’ll try those references.

Update and tips for beginners like me: I found Panos’s research information very helpful. But in the end I got the results I wanted by going back to my original iMovie HD project and saving the file to a movie this way: by going to “Share,” “QuickTime,” and then (this is the key) “Expert Settings.” I didn’t mess with anything else from there. Just grabbed the resulting file and inserted it to the blog. It is a larger file and took more time to upload, but I got the best quality this way. Thank you.
