video upgrade, Necessary or not ?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello,
I am working with a new person to WordPress, and she is a film maker. We are building a blog on the dot com side, I checked the video information, but still have a question about uploading raw video from a desktop directly to a blog. Should we purchase a video upgrade in order to upload video if it isn’t on a secondary site from which to upload? The videos range from 20 to 40 min each, I think an upgrade would be necessary for that, but I wanted to ask first before we got together to work it all out, so that I have this info to give her then. Thanks.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hello there!

If you want to upload video, you will indeed need VideoPress. Here is the information about that service:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/videopress/

If you didn’t want to purchase an upgrade, you could opt for uploading to a free, outside services and using shortcodes to embed video into your site, as seen here:

I hope this helps! Please let us know if you have any other questions. Thanks much!

    Hi,
I spoke to my client just now and explained to her her options. The professional plan is a possibility at a further date, because it presents the easiest and most cost effective and useful plan to her. She asked me if she opened a regular standard blog on the dot com side, and at a later date wanted to upgrade to the professional plan at the 99$ fee, can one transfer a regular blog INTO a professional plan? Can that be done? I was not sure that you could migrate into another plan from the standard program. Thanks for your help.

    Hey again!

She asked me if she opened a regular standard blog on the dot com side, and at a later date wanted to upgrade to the professional plan at the 99$ fee, can one transfer a regular blog INTO a professional plan?

That is not a problem. It doesn’t even require a transfer. You can simply upgrade a standard site. When/if she cares to do so, she can log onto her site and go to the Store in her Dashboard (or just click here). Then she select the $99 Premium upgrade.

There is even a 2-week free trial if she wants to try out all the bells and whistles first.

I do hope this helps. Cheers!

    Hello

I am working with my client. On My Blog, the upgrade for pro costs $79.00 cad. While on her blog. a newly opened blog, the upgrade to Pro is $99.00. wondering why the price difference and if we can get her on the seventy nine dollar upgrade rather than the latter?

    Thanks.

    Hello again

Does a private blog not on the main frame and connected to the outside world just show static information, as in location to reflect CAD pricing? Because she doesn’t see CAD nor the lower priced upgrade for the blog we opened recently. we want to get her the 79 dollar upgrade but it isn’t on her blog and we can’t figure out why that is. Thanks

    Hi @jeremiahandrews,

Could you pass along the URLs of the individual sites so I can confirm? Normally, this is the result of one of the sites already having an upgrade included in the Premium bundle. When that happens, the site owner receives a discount on the Premium bundle since they effectively have already purchased one of the upgrades.

So, if they own a domain ($18), then try to upgrade to Premium (which includes a domain), they’ll be offered the upgrade at $79 (roughly $99-$18 for the domain).

She also sent a query yesterday about this same issue on her side of the blog. I am just advising her. She only opened a primary blog, she hasn’t bought any domains or upgrades yet. It does not reflect CAD pricing on her blog site, like it does on mine, nor are our pricing the same for the same services.

You might want to check the queue for her inquiry yesterday.

    Thanks Jeremy

    Duh,

I just figured this out. On my blog I own my domain, and that is what I see on my side of the partition. My friend is a new blogger and hasn’t bought into the system therefore she would not see the CAD until she buys something. We are going to buy her domain tomorrow along with a pro upgrade which makes perfect sense, now that I thought it through.

If you find her query, just let her know about that.

    Thanks. Jeremy
