Videopress bandwidth

    Hello,

I intend to use videopress to host my online courses. I currently use around 10TB bandwidth through bunnycdn. Is there a bandwidth cap for using videopress? I can see that you have the right to terminate the service at any time from what I could understand from your ToS.

    Thank you.

    WP.com: Yes
    Correct account: Yes

  • Hello there,

Many thanks for reaching out. You would only have 200GB worth of storage when it comes to hosting those videos.

That’s quite a lot of content there – would you be willing to tell me more about what you’re looking to build? I’ll happily offer some insights and can perhaps provide some cost effective ways to host that content.

It says that I will get 1TB of storage in this page https://jetpack.com/videopress/

My videos are only available to our subscription based users and not visible from outside. Since our videos are all 1hour or longer, bandwidth consumption is high. We average 8 to 10 TB bandwidth per month atm.

If your videos are that large, VideoPress may not be the right option for you as on that page, it states that there’s a file size limit:

The file size limit is 5 GB. However, on slower networks, there is a chance the network will time out before being able to upload larger videos to a WordPress site.

Additionally, on their support page they advise this for files:

We also recommend File Sizes 1 GB and Lower: Jetpack’s video hosting may work for files up to 5 GB in size, but the larger the file is, the greater chance for the process to fail. Most networks will time out before you’re able to upload a file that’s larger than 1.4 GB. We cannot support files that are larger than 5 GB.

If you have further questions, feel free to contact the Jetpack Support team for more information.

    I hope that clarifies things!

My videos are usually smaller than 1GB. Around 200-500MB per video since they are 720p h264 videos. I tried out with one of my files from my wordpress uploads, transferred it to videopress servers and it was working after processing. I am just curious about the terms of service. We are considering using videopress as one of our additional sources to provide to our users. We would like to use every option as additional source like local files, bunnycdn, videopress and etc…

If the total storage is 1TB, file size limit is 1GB or 5GB this is totally fine by us. Our 8TB bandwidth per month is when we use only one source to publish videos. I think distributing them to other sources would lover the bandwidth for each.

Also we don’t get 8TB every month, this is during peak months as our students get more active during certain seasons.

  • Hi there, although we incorporate VideoPress on WordPress.com, it is a slightly different implementation than what is found by using the Jetpack Plugin (which includes VideoPress) on self-hosted WordPress sites on other providers.

On our end we do not have a bandwidth component that we track for WordPress.com sites, but I’m less certain if that is also the case for self-hosted sites like [redacted per request]

Given how specific your questions are, I would recommend contacting Jetpack support directly (at the link provided above) as the folks over there are in the best position to help with your questions. Hope this helps point you in the right direction!
