VideoPress embeds

  • Unknown's avatar

I am confused by the instructions on VideoPress blog.

    1. I need to grab the embed codes (NOT the shortcode) from my VideoPress
    media library,
    2. insert it into a custom field on my self hosted wp site,
    3. and then have it restricted to just my self hosted site.

So far I have not been able to coordinate the settings.

If I make the code to be visible to copy it,
the embed codes remain visible on my self hosted site post
as well as in Video Press media library.

Can someone please give me step by step instructions.

    Thanks,
    Spot

If you’re asking about a self-hosted site, you need to be at WordPress.ORG instead. Our answers won’t apply to you.

I;m asking about both, actually. The problem is, neither forum seems to know anything.

    Where does this question belong?
VideoPress is part of WordPress.com. But the OP has trouble using the videos on a self-hosted blog.
I think it’s reasonable to post the problem here (and at WordPress.org).
I would also consider it reasonable to contact WordPress.com support.

It sounds to me like gatos4 is asking how to host a video at WordPress.com (hence the Videopress upgrade, which only applies here) but make it unembeddable at all WordPress.com blogs and instead only embeddable on one, external website.

    That is not possible.

    shortcode for .com blogs

    embed codes for self host.

To embed a video on self hosted you need the html code paste it in html view, and then switch to visual for it to show up.

But what he wants is not possible: ie to render the posts unembeddable on WordPress.com but still embeddable on an external site. Those two things are irreconcilable.

    It cannot be done.

You can embed video on a WordPress.org blog using the WordPress.com VideoPress service. There is also a new feature which will allow you to restrict embed playback to certain domains. It’s new! See this page for details:
    http://videopress.com/2010/03/10/domain-whitelisting/

@spotonpictures If you install the VideoPress plugin, you can easily embed videos right from inside your WordPress.org blog:
    http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/video/

To whitelist a domain, go to the Settings > Media page in the WordPress.com blog where VideoPress is setup and look for the “restrict embed playback” option. Make sure your blog domain is listed there.
