Videopress for iOS

  • Unknown's avatar

I only have 1 video uploaded at this time (until I can get things working).

It’s an MOV (just over 1 hour long). Don’t know if MOV is contributing to the problem. Still trying to figure out how to convert it to MP4 with the software I have on my Mac (or some free converter).

I have SHARE turned off since my primary intent (and the reason I purchased VideoPress) is to embed videos on PROTECTED pages on my self-hosted WordPress.org site, to be available for sale or to paid subscribers.

My non-branded WP.com site is private, used only for hosting my videos.

Considering VimeoPro if can’t get solution fairly soon so I can still qualify for money back on VideoPress option.

I’ve now switched to Vimeo Pro, but when I originally contacted VideoPress support, they told me that my videos weren’t working on IOS devices because I didn’t have sharing switched on. So maybe that is the problem after all, even with the latest release.

As you know from my earlier posts, I was also concerned about the quality of the poster images, but now take a look at them on my site.

@sitesubscribe if you want to send me a small clip of your movie, i’ll happily try it out for you on Vimeo on a temporary basis, and send you the link (contact details are on my site)

@sitesubscribe – you should try turning sharing on but limiting the viewing of the video by domain (your own) and see if that works better for you. The documentation for limiting viewing by domain is under Settings> Media in WordPress admin. Full ducumentation can be found here:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/videopress/restrict-videopress-playback-by-domain/

    See if that works perhaps?

I did try turning on sharing and limiting to my domain, then not having sharing selected on the specific video. (That at least removed the share/embed feature from the video when embedded on my site, and works on my desktop browser.)

I then tried turning on sharing on the selected video, with same negative result on iOS.

At this point I’m wondering if it is a plugin conflict since it is working for other folks.

Suddenly the videos are working on iOS. Don’t know why all of a sudden. As far as I know nothing has changed. I turned off sharing and they still work.

The only problem now is that the videos aren’t sizing to fit the screen. I wonder if I need to wrap the video shortcode in a full width div or something?

@bernieraffe Thanks for the offer. Your site looks great. I may still try out VimeoPro at some point, but will likely wait a bit if I can get VideoPress to work.

Now if I can just get the auto-play to work on iOS…

[wpvideo u5fJ3C9X w=900 autoplay=true] only works on desktop brower, but not working on iOS. Oh well…

    Hi

I have read this thread and saw the versions topic listed here. Can someone please tell me how I check the version of Videopress that I have. I cannot find anything on the Dashboard. I’m so used to plugins that I cannot find where to look to make sure I have the latest version of Videopress.

    Thanks.

  • If you have a self-hosted WordPress.org plugin, check the Plugins section of your Dashboard. The latest version is 1.5.

If you have a WordPress.com blog, you’re always running the latest version.
