VideoPress – Page Builder Compatibility

I was recently looking at upgrading hosting to a dedicated WP host that offers VideoPress in the package offerings. After reading about this feature, it appears its only possible to use the VideoPress hosting/CDN network if the video is embedded with the WP/Gutenberg video module.

Is this correct? Or is it still possible to embed VideoPress content via another page builder (i.e. Divi or Elementor)?

  • Hi there,

When you upload any video to your Media Library (on a VideoPress-enabled site) that video is uploaded to VideoPress and optimized for replay on the web. You do have the option to use these videos in the standard Gutenberg blocks such as Video Block, but also the video should be available to other page builders that access media in the Media Library. Additionally within the media library you can click on a video and get the direct media URL (to the video file itself) which would allow you to embed via URL as a fallback.

It may be best to check with the support department to confirm, but I’ve never seen it become an issue with site owners I have helped in the past.

Also worth noting that our Business Plan (which includes Jetpack by default) has an added bonus in that video uploads do not count directly against your media storage: https://wordpress.com/support/plan-features/#video-storage

Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.

Ok, glad to know those details. So there are essentially two copies? One saved on my server, but also another copy saved to Jetpacks video servers and distributed via their network?

The hosting provider said they offer the “Professional” Jetpack plan (apparently no longer publicly offered) and it is said to include unlimited video storage/CDN.

Exactly. There are multiple copies stored in Jetpack’s CDN servers.

Yes, this is a legacy plan that matches the Jetpack features offered in our Business plan.
