VideoPress – Replace player logo with your own
-
The VideoPress upgrade costs $59/year, but…
As I understand it, being able to promote your own brand or service (if you make your own videos) would take nothing less than the WordPress VIP service that starts at “$15,000 / year per seat”… Seriously!?
$15,000 to get my logo on my videos sounds a bit steep. Why make a great incentive like VideoPress have as big a deal breaker as this? I could even go with it not having any logo at all. My viewers aren’t tech savvy, what are they going to think?
Please Automattic, try to rethink this… it’s not like this service is free, couldn’t customers get a little service?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

If you wish Staff to take your idea under consideration then may I suggest that you consider contacting them directly? http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/

tfwrvideo — VideoPress VIP is not $15K/year — but rather based on usage. You can see the pricing details here: http://videopress.com/contact/
cheers.

I promote my own brand and service and all I’ve got is domain mapping and one CSS upgrade. If you want to put your logo on your videos, why not just put them in a different place than WP puts its? Or use an external video service, put the watermark anywhere you want, and use Vodpod to insert the video here, for free?
It saves time to ask for help with a problem first, rather than complaining that what you want isn’t possible. It’s not only possible; it’s free.

@timethief : Thank you for the tip. I did in fact and they responded right away. They say the logo change feature is “just around the corner”… I can’t wait ;-)
@raincoaster : If I wanted 2 logos on my videos, perhaps your suggestion would work.
In regards to preferring a “free” service, I think Automattic has done thousands (if not millions) of people a pretty big favor with self hosted WordPress being free (web designers, bloggers, start-ups with no cash…). If I have to fork out 60 bucks to support a company who’s done a lot for me rather than some new “free service” with identical solutions, then I chose sustainable consumption (or financing) all the way and am happy to pay Automattic. When people do things right they should be rewarded in order to keep their motivation and have the means to continue, at least thats how i see it.
This being said, I honestly believe that putting a GIGANTIC WordPress logo in the middle of every video is a bit much. Not even Youtube does that… So i’m complaining because it just seemed ridiculous that such a thing would be imposed (on a paid service) back when getting ready to purchase the videopress upgrade. Due to the general lack of information around this service (both on WP.com and while searching over the web) I am now stuck with a watermark I would rather have removed all together and I feel like the people at Automattic are intelligent enough that I can actually give them my point of view without bruising their ego.
I did my research and before posting here my only conclusion was that 60 bucks became 15 000 bucks (for self branded video hosting) which significantly alters my ability to actually pay for the service. That is the ONLY thing I am complaining about and I think most people would feel the same way.

@ raanan : Thank you for the link. I had seen that question before buying the videopress upgrade.
Q: Can I customize the player?
A: Yes, you can replace the splash frame logo and select your own color palette. But how? The 500€ setup fee is for VIP hosting, which I do not want, and VIP support starts at $ 15 000…
So how can I do this? It’s really not clear :-( Perhaps you could make a Codex like for wordpress.org?
