VideoPress Upload Problem

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi there,

I’ve repeatedly tried uploading a 552 MD WMV file to my new wordpress site that has videopress. It takes forever to upload and, in the end, never fully processes. Any ideas why this keeps happening and/or what I can do to fix this problem?

    Thanks!

    Additional Info
What is the format of video being played?
VideoPress converts your uploaded video file into MP4 and Ogg formats. Our MP4 files are encoded with H.264 video and AAC audio lossy compression codecs. Ogg files are encoded with Theora video and Vorbis audio lossy compression codecs.
What file types can I upload? …

Video files are a packaging format containing multiple files (similar to a zipped file on your computer). VideoPress checks for known video packages before upload and attempts to decode your file’s audio and video compression formats once your file arrives on our servers.

VideoPress supports MP4 (.mp4, .m4v), QuickTime movies (.mov), Windows Media Video (.wmv), Audio Video Interleave (.avi), MPEG (.mpg), Ogg (.ogv), 3GPP (.3gp) and 3GPP2 (.3g2). http://en.support.wordpress.com/videopress/#additional-info

Yes, except my file is already in a Windows Media Video format so I’m still not sure why this is happening…

    Windows Media Video format

I’m sorry you are experiencing this and have flagged this thread for staff attention.

  • It looks like the transcoding failed. There could be two reasons for this:

    1. The upload didn’t complete.

    2. Though it is a WMV, it’s encoded with a proprietary codec that we can’t translate.

So, let’s start by re-uploading the file. If that still haven’t finished processing in a few hours, use http://www.mirovideoconverter.com/ to turn the video into an MP4.
