Videopress video quality
-
I just purchased a VideoPress upgrade in order to embed videos in my self hosted site. I’ve uploaded videos per instructions. The videos are created at 800×600. The space available for the video is 934 px wide.
The video is embeded as if it is only 400 px wide. When I add the w=800 to the short code the video quality drops dramatically. The same video is crisp and clear when played from screencast.com(at its native resoloution) but it is very fuzzy when played from WordPress.
I haven’t been able to find any settings regarding this. Is there some way to preserve the quality of the video when it is hosted on WordPress?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Can you drop a note to support with your blog details so we can take a look: http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/
thanks.

@byobwebsite, VideoPress transcodes at 400, 640 and 1280. So, an 800×600 video will get transcoded to 640×480 and 400×300.
The default resolution is 400×300, so you do have to add parameters like w=640 if you want to display a larger version.
Your video was transcoded into 640×480 and 400×300. If you display it at w=800, it will be upscaled and result in a blurry video. If you upload a 1280 wide version, you can downscale to display it at 800×600 in high quality.

I’m really frustrated with this same issue because it does not seem to work as advertised. Here’s an example:
http://vholtreman.wordpress.com/2009/12/06/850px-wide-video-example/
I uploaded a video that was 850px wide and very high quality. When I embed it above in a content area that is wider than 640px it is NOT displaying DVD quality and my understanding is that is what it should be doing.
I’m actually trying to get decent quality videos here:
http://screenrant.com/international-trailer-avatar-rob-32482/
I realize on Screen Rant that the limit is 570px, but I was hoping that I could display better quality than 400px blown up to 570. Then it’s even worse if someone hits the fullscreen button. Despite the fact the original source is 850px wide, videopress expands the 400px wide version!
I’ve been very dissatisfied with the results AND with attempts at getting resolution or answers from support, which is even more annoying when this is a paid product. :(
I was hoping this would be a great solution for video display on my site, but it’s been far from it – providing very poor quality videos to my readers.

OK, someone contacted me to say that even though it’s not listed on the support page, in addition to minimum width requirements to achieve each quality level, there are also height minimums.
