Videos Not Embedding

    Hi there,

    I have been struggling with this for the last two days.

    I am trying to simply embed a video from youtube and it just won’t work.

    This is the error message I’m getting.
    Sorry, this content could not be embedded.

    I even tried embedding it from Vimeo, but that didn’t work either.

    Any clues? Thanks!

    Hi there,

    This is because those are Youtube Shorts.

    Youtube videos embed on WordPress via a process called oEmbed. If a service (Youtube in this case) supports oEmbed, and you paste a link to a video on your site, your site sends a request to Youtube, and Youtube sends back their own video player with the video already loaded inside it.

    But at the moment Youtube only supports oEmbed for regular videos. They don’t support oEmbed for Youtube Shorts, so if your site sends them that link, they don’t send anything back.

    This is something Youtube will have to change on their end before it will work on any WordPress site.

    For now there is a workaround – you can change the Shorts link into a regular Youtube video link that will embed correctly.

    So instead of https://www.youtube.com/shorts/rfC1V1oWpq0, use https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rfC1V1oWpq0. In other words, take the unique ID for the video, and add it at the end of the URL you’d get for a regular video, and it will also embed like a regular video.
