Videos won’t insert into blog post

Youtube videos make the embed code available to all, and link to Youtube too. You can’t hide that from your clients. If you could, you would simply be trying to deceive them. And if you could, it would be against the Youtube TOS:

If you use the Embeddable Player on your website, you may not modify, build upon, or block any portion or functionality of the Embeddable Player, including but not limited to links back to the YouTube website.

    ( http://www.youtube.com/t/terms , 4F )

You Tube was a patch since the Animoto embeds stopped working. I didn’t go to You Tube by choice but out of necessity. And I’m not trying to hide a link back to YouTube, just don’t want it to be obvious.

My best bet is probably the VideoPress upgrade but I’m also cheap too! LoL Hey I’m in a VERY competitive business I got to watch my expenses. :)

But seriously I still dont quite understand why the embed codes don’t work or why they would be a problem on WordPress.

Your best bet is Vodpod, seriously. Try it; it works basically like an iframe; the video is hosted at Vodpod, but you can view it on your blog. It should be controllable.

“But seriously I still dont quite understand why the embed codes don’t work or why they would be a problem on WordPress.”

The embed codes do work in the HTML editor; but they are automatically converted to WP shortcodes, because embed codes aren’t directly allowed in wp.com (and that’s not a recent change).

Shortcode or embed code makes no difference: neither one can provide an option that Youtube doesn’t allow, and WP can’t override that. As raincoaster mentioned hours ago, it’s Youtube that’s changed what the player includes, not WP.

The embed codes are NOT working in HTML editor that is why I’m pissed! With the embed codes on You Tube you CAN control how the viewer looks. THAT part is WHAT has changed with WORDPRESS.

The embed codes WORKED a couple weeks ago. This post was done with embed code. http://visionsphotography.wordpress.com/2010/06/15/johnson-county-relay-for-life/ just a few weeks ago.

This post I had to do with the shortcode / url because the embed code would NOT work. http://visionsphotography.wordpress.com/2010/07/08/elissabeth-and-nicks-wedding/

The only way I can get it to post a you tube video is with the url / shortcodes.

Well now they are all just showing up as white blocks on my blog now. http://visionsphotography.wordpress.com. wtf

    You’re pissed in vain.

The regular embed code does work. The embed code with extra options is stripped out. But the shortcode method is easier and more reliable. And whatever you could do with the embed code, you can do with the shortcode too. Instead of shouting that the embed codes don’t work and that WP etc etc., you could have told us that you need the Youtube option “Include related videos” off (as I understand now that you linked to your older post). To do that, you copy the video URL and write the shortcode this way:

    [youtube=URL&rel=0]

    Please help me!

I am trying to add embedded videos into my post! The videos initially come up, and when a user tries to click on them the video goes white and does not play! I want the viewers to be able to view the embedded video.

I did insert the link below the video and the viewers can open up in a new window and download the video. When I click on the ogg link provided, it says file not found.

Can anyone please help me allow my viewers to view the video from my page? I just paid like $60!!!!

At panaghiotisadam………..I’m sorry but that is still dumb! If the “extras” work on the short code, then there is no logical reason that they shouldn’t work with the embed code. And btw I CAN’T get the embed codes to work at all, whenever I save the draft or publish it, the embed code just goes away and the video will not show up.

Not all of us are that familiar with html and know these codes, this is why I posted this in the first place.

The fact still remains that it USED to work, It WORKED a few weeks ago WITH the “extras” on the embed code. I’d still like to know what changed and why, I compared the old codes to the codes I get today and they are essentially the same which tells me its a WordPress issue, not You Tube.

At kwhite 100…..If it helps mine were all white this morning, now they seem to be working. Other then that I’m no genius like panaghiotisadam and cant help much.

Perhaps you ought to take your issues to Staff and see what they have to say. If so here’s the link http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/

I have been having trouble with the WP videos the last few days also. Often, when published in a post they just show up as “white blank spaces.” Some time later, they will display properly. Seems to have something to do with “flash.quantserve.com” that WordPress has been deploying lately, and which seems to interfere with the videos loading properly (Vimeo videos also).

Thanks Disembedded, I knew I wasn’t “dreaming” this. It’s definately been having issues on WP.

@smokeydawg: Once I realized what you were looking for, I gave you the solution. But you’re still complaining…

Usually embed codes aren’t allowed at all in wp.com, for security reasons:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/code/

The WP way is the shortcode way – period. If you’re interested in using WP, you’ve got to adapt to how things are done in WP.

Agree, “not all of us are that familiar with html and know these codes”. Only I would add that not all of us bother to check Support docs either:

@panaghiotisadam………..I DO really appreciate the tips!

I guess what is getting me is you keep telling me how I can’t do things on WP here that I have been doing all along until recently. And one of your 1st responses was How I was trying to cheat my clients.

Other then this post which was basically brought on by desperation because support was not answering my questions in a timely manner, (yes I understand they are busy people), but I needed to get some things posted, and in a timely manner for my clients and was getting real frustrated in the process.

I don’t usually have time to spare to spend hours looking through thousands of posts for what I need to accomplish and WP is imo not the most user friendly interface, it gets confusing to us non html smart people. Yes if you’ve dealt with it for years like some of you, it seems easy and everyone should know this stuff, but to html dummies like me it is REAL confusing. Hell before this post I didn’t realize the differences between WP.com and WP.org.

Just remember in the future not all of us are as savvy at this stuff as some of you. And when someone says they have done something in the past, try believing them for a change.

I don’t mind “adapting” it’s part of life, but when I adapt, then what I adapted to changes again, then I adapt, then it changes yet again, well I’m human and get frustrated.

And btw I did check that last link about YouTube and it DID NOT address the embed codes which is how I was used to doing things and once again IT WORKED until recently.

Once again I do appreciate the help, but help without telling me I can’t do and never could do what I have been doing all along until recently would have been appreciated. :)

Yes, I understand your frustration: when I started blogging I was an html dummy myself; and WP changes things all the time (usually but not always improving them).

What I meant with the link about YouTube is that when you have a problem or when something changes, you can search the relevant doc for solutions, options or alternatives. The doc on YouTube shows what to add to the shortcode to get the equivalent of unchecking the option “Include related videos”.

Hi, I’m new to wordpress, and blogs in general. I’m just making my first posts and I need to embed a video.
I didn’t find shortcode for that site. Reading this tread I realized I can’t use a regular embed code. So, how do I convert the embed code to shortcode?

    Thanks

  • Unknown's avatar

We cannot help without the URL of the video you want to embed. It all depends what kind of video it is. Did you want to upload video to your blog from your hard drive?

Can some one help me?? I am trying to embed a video on my wordpress blog from Marca.com but the embed code is not working??

  • Unknown's avatar

You can’t just embed external videos from any source. Marca is not an approved video source, so you have two choices:

You can open an account at Vodpod, post the video there, and use their Post To WordPress.com button to put it in a post here.

Or you can use the Gigya shortcode:

The gigya shortcode 1 – inserting videos
