View Counts?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Are your own views counted? That would add, well, tons. Or does the count only include everyone else? Thanks!

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    It is always best to post a link to the blog you are asking about in order to get an accurate answer. Starting with http://

    If you have a wordpress.com blog, and you are logged in to your account, then your visits/views are not counted.

    If you have a wordpress.org blog, then you should ask in the .org forum.

    I’m not certain (I’m new to this). Here’s the link: http://madeleinerex.com

    Yes, that is a wordpress.com blog. So your visits won’t be counted while you are logged in. They will count if you are not logged in.

    The main difference between the 2 kinds of wordpress:
    .com = free hosting
    .org = user pays for hosting
    It’s a little more complicated, so for more detail, read the link I gave you above.

    Now, I’m hearing about “visits” vs. “views”. They sound like the same thing. ( : Are they? And thank you so much!

  • Unknown's avatar

    Yes. The same.

    If you scroll down to the very bottom of your blog (in your theme “rounded” below the blue bar there), you will see a little smiley face. She is angela. If she loads that counts as a hit, view, or visit.

    But again, if you are logged in to your account, then you will not be added to the stats.

    A small move from looking at the # of hits/views/visits now.
    (though you did not ask)

    Watch what search terms people use to find your blog. Watch which links readers click on when they are on your blog. Look at which are your most popular posts. Keep an eye on who is linking to your blog.

    The number of hits per day (week, month, forever) may be gratifying and make you feel good, but by looking at the other information from wp.com you can plan what to post about based on what your readers like. Or even re-direct them to what you want to tell them about.

    Thanks for helping with things I want to know before I know want to know them! ( ;

    So… How can I tell what words people are using to find my blog? As I created it yesterday, the search engines online haven’t “registered” me yet. Another question: Are the stats ever wrong? My view number for the 1st is 44-and possibly three of those are mine when I wasn’t logged on–but another 39 sounds like A LOT.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Geez, I need to read through things before I post them. Excuse me. ( :

    LOL. Usually we volunteers don’t go off and answer questions that posters don’t ask! but I’m about to go on a rare vacation, and you are seeming interested!

    I do apologize if I’m annoying you!

    If you can’t yet see search engine terms, just give it some time. A week or two at least. You will see them eventually.

    The stats are always wrong! Different stat counters measure different things. And who can really know which one is measuring the “right” thing? This is really a philosophical question.

    I work with stats, and what you want to do is to just use stats all as guides for whether or not you are going in a good direction or not.

    Haha. Okay. I noticed the search engine stats a few minutes ago (thanks for mentioning them). Apparently my most popular is “catching fire by suzanne collins”. I wrote a review.

    Thanks so much, and annoying is far from the way I’m thinking of you right now!
