View counts
-
It used to be that if I went to the blog posts page and edited a post, it wouldn’t show up. Now each time I do something on that page, it shows up as a visit.
WP.com: Yes
Correct account: YesThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there!
The way stats are tracked on your site hasn’t changed. If your site is set to private, views by you and other logged-in members of your site are counted.
Since your site is private, that’s why your own logged-in traffic is counted.
I hope that clarifies things!

If I go directly to my stats page, that visit is t counted. When I used to go to my Blog Posts page where you can edit (not the main page) it wouldn’t count those as visits, but that has changed in the last couple of months. No other settings have changed.

Hi there,
To clarify, you are saying that when you visit https://wordpress.com/posts/wrestlingfate.wordpress.com (where your blog posts are listed for you to edit) you believe this activity is recorded in your site stats?
I’ve visited your stats page to check on page visits over the past 7 days, but I did not see any visits recorded for internal (dashboard) pages on your site. I see only visits to you homepage, as well as to one blog post that you appear to have since deleted. You can see what I here
If I go directly to my stats page, that visit is t counted.
Can you tell us a little more about where you are seeing these visits to internal admin areas of your site. If you are able to take a screenshot of what you see that would be helpful as well.
On our end, we do not have tracking pixels in Calypso (the codebase we use for admin areas) so there is technically no way to track visits to these pages. Because the site is private though your visits, and that of anyone you invite to see your site, are tracked.
To share a screenshot with us, you can upload it to the Media Library on your site, and then copy the image URL. You can see a video of how to do this here: https://d.pr/v/Fcnerp
Once you have the image URL just paste it into your reply and we will be able to see your screenshot, thanks!

Ok. I had a saved link to the same address you sent for “posts” when I went to “edit” on any post or “comments” on any post from that link, it would show up as a site visit. From your link, it did not. So, I replaced that bookmark with yours.
However, when I go to the menu page (for example, to go to settings and then general) those pages are counted as visits to the site.
I have not visited the main page today. Only the pages I’ve mentioned above and I have 9 visits listed for today.

Correction: it’s gone back to adding any views on pages other than the “stats” page as being visits.

I looked into things on our end and everything is working properly.
Looking at your stats for today, you have 16 “refers” from the WordPress.com Reader to your site’s homepage:

This appears to match the number of views your site has currently. Additionally, all these “views” are from a single viewer.
To clarify, the two main units of traffic measurement are views and visitors:
– A view is counted when a visitor loads or reloads a page.
– A visitor is counted when we see a user or browser for the first time in a selected time frame. Are you going to your site from your Reader? If so, that would explain why you have homepage views (which is what the
Home page / Archivesstat indicates) with a referrer of the WordPress.com Reader. Since you’re the only person with access to your site, you would be the “visitor” in question. Staff views/visits are never counted on WordPress.com sites. If other pages were being visited and stats were being recorded, they would be indicated by the specific post or page in your stats. For example, this is the post & pages stats from today for the Jetpack.com site:

Note that the
Home page / Archivesstat is much lower in views because a lot of traffic to that site comes from search engines looking for a specific Jetpack feature or the Support contact form.Another thing to note is that WordPress.com uses a bit of javascript code inserted into your page’s footer on the front end of your site and tied to your site’s blog ID in our system that is responsible for your site’s stat tracking. This code looks like this:
script src="//stats.wp.com/w.js?63That script does not exist in your site’s dashboard or wp-admin pages, and as such, would make it impossible for stats to be tracked there.
I would recommend reviewing your saved URLs to make sure you’re not visiting your site before you go into your site’s dashboard.
I hope that clarifies things!

I don’t understand the question about whether I am going to the site from my reader. I login on my phone from safari and then go to my bookmark of stats or posts. In the past those never counted as views and now the views of the posts in the edit feature are. This has changed within the past six months probably. Would it be different if I used the app or accessed those pages in a different manner? I’m trying to get only views of the actual published pages to count as a views which is the way it used to be. It used to be that if I didn’t maintenance or were on any of the Settings pages those were never counted as views.
I do appreciate all of your help here.

So… I download the app and unless I view a post specifically there are no views counted. Why would that be the case for the app but not a web browser?
