Hi there,
Are you referring to the Edit page? You should be able to view the site by clicking the
Previewlink and selecting Preview in New Tab. Also, whenever you save your draft, you should be able to click the link at the bottom to preview the site:Please let us know if this is what you are referring to.
Thanks!

But after you publish the post there is no direct button simply to go view the post. It is so indirect, accessing the page. This is on a PC.
-
Normally after the post is published you should have two options that come up to let you go directly to the post.
The first is on the slide-out panel which appears when you publish the post:
The second is a pop-up in the bottom left corner of the editor, which also indicates the ‘View post’ link; it’s the same location as the one that @staff-doublebassd mentioned above:
Finally, you can still open the post from the editor page, by clicking on the slug/permalink in the post settings. Here’s a screenshot showing that:
You can find more about the page slug option here, in case you do need that too:

the top screenshot version/option does not appear every single time after hitting “publish” (for me).
at least half the time [more i think] the “preview” option appears with a drop-down menu with the options “desktop” “tablet” “mobile” that do nothing when i click on them.
but i agree that the top screenshot is clear and direct (and that is what i wish would appear every time i write a post).
thank you, i do appreciate the time you have taken to help.

The preview button with the different options (desktop/tablet/mobile) should do something – by default you’re in desktop view but choosing tablet or mobile should reduce the editor view to an appropriately comparable size for those types of devices, so you can see how your content would look.
If the choices do nothing, it sounds like there’s something else affecting your editor experience; is there any chance that any extension/add-on in your browser might be preventing the preview from working? It might be worth testing this while using a private window to log in on WordPress.com, which will not have any browser extensions active.

I was wrong to say the “preview” button does nothing. I just never tried selecting “tablet” or “mobile” in the drop-down menu. Still, the “preview” never leaves the edit page itself to show what the post looks like on my themed page.
Why doesn’t the editor default to the “view post” version every time? As in the top screenshot? After hitting “publish”? Why does it not leave the “preview” version so regularly?

I have a screenshot of the “Preview” page remaning after I’ve hit “Publish”.
But I can’t see how to include a screenshot in this reply thread.
An “Update” button now appears instead of “Publish”. But no “View Post” option.

Hi there,
You can upload it to your media library, and we’ll be able to take a look.
Thank you!

Thanks for the screenshot.

In addition to tablet and mobile, there should be a desktop option along with the option to view the page in a new tab whenever you click on the Preview link. That should allow you to view your published page. Are you not seeing that option when clicking on Preview?

Hmmm. When logged in under your account, I am able to see it from one of your untitled post edits:
So, you’re just seeing mobile and tablet as options? I am wondering if your preference options are different from your end if you are unable to see them. Please confirm this isn’t the drop-down option you’re seeing and dig more into this.
Thanks!

I use Firefox on Linux. When I click on “Preview” I see “Desktop” “Tablet” “Mobile” both before and after I hit “Publish”.

Hello there,
Thank you for that additional screenshot – can you tell me if you’re seeing a preview button after adding a page title?
Also, to check, is there any ad blockers installed on the browser?
-
I disabled U-block origin. That was the problem. The edit/write page loads fine.
Thank you for all the help.
